Biography

Doctrine turns a brother against Nightingale

When brought to see Nightingale, Hyde rejected his sister because he had accepted the Church's teaching that witches served the Devil. His choice deepened her isolation and shows how anti-witch doctrine could turn a family relationship into active cruelty. Years later he had inherited the Gilen title but become dependent on Viscount Dott Somi, who used him as a front while pursuing the family's land. Nightingale exposed Somi's crimes and freed Hyde from that control, but Hyde blamed her for the loss of his title and prospects; she ended their relationship while leaving his future choices to him.
