Greta

Greta is an Arcadia innkeeper, Emily's mother, and one of the first people to give Aengus Degaro, then known as Ethan, an ordinary home in Mythraldor. Widowed and overworked, she sustains her family through the inn and extends that care to him without demanding status or power. She dies when Arcadia's camp is devoured, but later evidence reports that her soul is reborn elsewhere in Mythraldor. (Chapters 3–72 and 446)

Finding An Inn to Vespera’s Worst fear

Greta meets Ethan when Aria brings him to her inn and asks for a room. She offers the cramped space available, feeds him, and quickly treats his presence as part of the household rather than a purely commercial stay. Their morning conversations, her teasing about his acquaintances, and her concern after he is beaten establish the inn as his first dependable refuge. When knights arrest him, Greta pleads on his behalf; when he returns, she welcomes him with dinner and practical fussing instead of suspicion. (Chapters 3–26)

Her generosity rests on persistent work rather than wealth. Greta's hunter husband died on a mission, leaving her to raise Emily and run the inn alone, and the strain wrinkles her face despite her being only thirty-two. She worries when Ethan disappears during the auction attack and personally checks that he survived. In return, Ethan comes to count Greta and Emily among the good people closest to him, making their household evidence that his new life can contain family and ordinary affection alongside violence. During the beast attack on Arcadia, Greta protects Emily and loses an arm. Thugs then assault the injured mother until Ethan arrives, rescues both women, and purges the demonic aura contaminating the wound; he identifies a restoration potion as necessary for regrowth, but the corpus does not show the arm restored before the larger catastrophe.
