King's Chess Piece

The King's Chess Piece is William's soul-bound expression of Issei's King's Divinity. It supports the King's Legion, letting William call contracted herd members and later contributing to the System's Familia functions. (Chapters 195, 407)

History

King's Legion

William first explains the piece through King's Legion: by using the King's Divinity within his soul, he can summon members of his herd, including beings joined through equal contracts. At that point he can access only one quarter of its Divinity because he has not met the requirements for full activation. (Chapter 195)

Familia system and Conan

The System later combines the Chess Piece's Divinity with the CPU Core to connect to the Familia Database and bestow subclasses on members of William's Familia. The relic can also bless selected followers, but becomes dormant after such use. During the final conflict its Divinity merges with Conan, ultimately becoming his secondary heart. (Chapters 407, 417, 1464)

Abilities and properties

  • King's Legion summons contracted members of William's herd to him regardless of their current location. Early use is capped at one quarter of the relic's Divinity. (Chapter 195)
  • In combination with the CPU Core, it connects to the Familia Database and allows William to assign one of his own classes as another member's subclass. The Chess Piece is not shown performing this integration alone. (Chapter 407)
  • It can bless a chosen subordinate and trigger evolution, as when Sharx and his mount change after receiving its blessing. The piece then becomes dormant, so this is not a continuously repeatable effect. (Chapter 417)
  • After merging with Conan, it acts as a secondary heart. Exhausting its full power leaves Conan comatose, but he later recovers rather than remaining dead. (Chapter 1464)
