Agatha

Agatha is Duchess of Griffith and Rebecca's mother. Her intervention ends Rebecca's childhood engagement to William.

Biography

Breaking the arranged engagement

Agatha travels to Lont with Rebecca, Eleanor, and armed retainers and is formally introduced as Duchess of Griffith. She immediately pushes to dissolve the agreement pairing her daughter with William, judging the dusty shepherd boy unworthy of Rebecca's future. Her intervention, reinforced by Eleanor, succeeds in ending the betrothal and creates the dispute later settled by William and Rebecca's duel. William remembers Agatha afterward when considering how noble visitors might expose him to rare weapons, but Agatha takes no further character-centered action in the selected record.
