Zi Yan
Zi Yan is Zi Che's elder sister and a Freezing Sky cultivator whose persistent visits to the Ninth Summit entangle her with its eccentric disciples. Her initially hostile search for Hu Zi develops alongside Second Senior Brother's courtship and eventually leads to marriage with Ya Mu and a son. Although the destruction of the old world separates her from that life, she appears again with Zi Che in Su Ming's recreated Ninth Summit.
Biography
Courtship around the Ninth Summit
Zi Yan repeatedly searches the Ninth Summit for Hu Zi after an undisclosed incident drives him into hiding, greeting Su Ming with open irritation when he obstructs her. Second Senior Brother turns the confrontation into courtship: he offers to escort her, continues visiting and “bothering” her, and gradually becomes the relationship that shapes her later life. Zi Yan remains reluctant and sharp-tempered rather than instantly persuaded, but the continuing contact survives the immediate clan disputes. (Chapters 248–297)
Later she is entrusted to the protection of allies during South Morning's catastrophes. By Su Ming's return she dresses as a married woman and recognizes Second Senior Brother immediately despite the changes around them. She and Ya Mu have a young son, whom she protects while maintaining respectful relations with stronger seniors. These later scenes confirm that the comic pursuit became a family, not merely a recurring joke. (Chapters 518–538, 720–722, 1232–1237)
Return at the recreated summit
At the novel's endpoint, Zi Yan stands beside Zi Che at the foot of the restored Ninth Summit while familiar voices echo across the mountain. Her presence places her within the community Su Ming recreates from the lives and bonds he refused to relinquish. The scene confirms restoration in that world but does not separately document her memories, cultivation level, or the precise metaphysics of her return. (Chapter 1481)
Appearance and personality
Zi Yan is an adult woman later described in the dress of a married woman. Her expressions move readily from chilling anger to reluctance, concern, and formal courtesy. She is protective of her brother and son, direct when pursuing a grievance, and difficult for the Ninth Summit disciples to evade. Her acceptance of Ya Mu develops over time and does not erase the forceful personality shown at their first meetings. (Chapters 248–297, 1232–1237)
Abilities and cultivation
Zi Yan is a long-lived cultivator capable of traveling in flight with other Freezing Sky disciples. Later she participates in a group whose senses and cultivation make the unnoticed arrival of a vastly stronger being alarming. The dossier supplies no named technique, formal realm, or independently resolved battle, so her capability cannot be specified beyond trained cultivation and longevity. (Chapters 248–297, 1233–1234)
She is instructed to extract a Life Crystal from a sea dragon taken by her son. This establishes practical knowledge of the procedure, but the actual extraction and its mechanics are not shown, so it should not be treated as a demonstrated signature art. (Chapter 1233)
