Zhu You Cai
Zhu You Cai is a taciturn, physically formidable cultivator who gathers outside the Fifth Furnace with the foremost experts of Divine Essence Star Ocean. His outward ferocity conceals an unexplained bond to Husband Gazing Mountain and to the bald crane, a connection the narrative deliberately leaves suggestive rather than fully resolved.
Biography
The Fifth Furnace gathering
Zhu You Cai arrives before the Fifth Furnace as a plump, tusked man whose crimson gaze and charging attack make him seem almost bestial. He collides with Flame Fiends' Progenitor inside the surrounding fire, but their battle is only a rough greeting: soon the smaller Progenitor is sitting on his shoulder and singing while Zhu You Cai listens in silence. Their familiarity matters when entry into the Furnace becomes dangerous. Zhu You Cai watches the other contenders carefully, enters through a Rune only after weighing the changing space, and later halts when Ancient Wu's golden light envelops the kiln. His restraint shows that his blunt fighting style is paired with a veteran's caution. (Chapters 978–997)
Arid Triad's final crisis
After the Fifth Furnace, Zhu You Cai remains within the network of people connected to Su Ming. Su Ming later sees him cultivating with Flame Fiends' Progenitor on a planet in True Morning Dao World. When the catastrophe overtakes Harmonious Morus Alba, Su Ming addresses him separately from the others, acknowledging that he does not understand Zhu You Cai's relationship with the bald crane but affirming Zhu You Cai as his own person. Zhu You Cai is subsequently among those frozen when the world is stilled, and the supplied chapters do not record an independent recovery. (Chapters 1207–1353)
Husband Gazing Mountain supplies the final clue to his past. Su Ming remembers that Zhu You Cai came from there and notices that its woman-shaped rock resembles the woman whom the bald crane once watched beside a lake. The parallel links Zhu You Cai, the crane, and the mountain through loss and waiting, but the text stops short of explaining the exact identity or history behind that bond. (Chapter 1360)
Appearance and personality
Zhu You Cai is plump, with tusks, black hair, and long yellow brows that extend beyond his ears. His eyes can shine crimson, and a strange sweet fragrance surrounds him. He speaks little and often answers uncertainty by watching, waiting, or acting directly. His apparent savagery is therefore misleading: he is alert to danger, loyal enough to remain near old associates, and capable of complicated, private feeling that the narration repeatedly leaves beneath his impassive expression. (Chapters 978–979)
Abilities and cultivation
Zhu You Cai's innate physical power is his clearest demonstrated weapon. He can rush through a sea of fire and turn his body into a gigantic flaming mass for a direct collision. The attack depends on closing distance and is not shown bypassing every defense; his caution around the Fifth Furnace's other experts makes clear that strength does not remove tactical risk. (Chapter 978)
He also withstands the hostile fire surrounding the Fifth Furnace and is treated by Mastery Realm figures as a peer worth guarding against. The corpus does not name his exact cultivation realm or explain whether his fire is an innate art, learned technique, or effect of the local sea of fire, so those points remain uncertain. His sensitivity to Ancient Wu's power lets him recognize a major change in the Furnace, but no independent counter to that power is demonstrated. (Chapters 979–997)
Relationships
- Flame Fiends' Progenitor: Their clashes mask an established friendship. The Progenitor describes himself as being on friendly terms with Zhu You Cai, and the two later cultivate together. (Chapters 979, 993, 1207)
- Bald crane: Su Ming recognizes an unexplained relationship between them. Husband Gazing Mountain and the woman-shaped stone deepen the association without resolving it. (Chapters 1353, 1360)
- Su Ming: Zhu You Cai begins as a wary fellow entrant, then becomes part of the wider community Su Ming tries to preserve at the end of the aeon. (Chapters 979–997, 1207–1353)
Items
No named personal item is securely assigned to Zhu You Cai in the supplied corpus. His access to the Fifth Furnace depends on its entry Runes, but those are part of the Furnace rather than his possessions. (Chapter 993)
