Xuan Shang

Xuan Shang leads four cultivators whose survival becomes tied to Su Ming and a Xuan Family supreme treasure. Polite and cautious when outmatched, he nevertheless resents losing control of his inheritance and ends trapped by the Fifth Furnace after choosing grievance over continued cooperation.

Biography

Survival under Su Ming's control

Xuan Shang enters Heaven Traverser territory with three companions and attempts to defuse danger through courtesy, a Dust Burners authentication token, and his friendship with Lu Ka. When Su Ming offers the group a chance to live, Xuan Shang commits fully: he exhausts himself turning a pearl into a net around a fleeing Nascent Divinity. The four later become souls operating their family's composite supreme-treasure body, with Su Ming temporarily serving as its main soul and vastly increasing its effectiveness. (Chapters 948–949, 961–997)

The arrangement protects them but also exposes their dependence. Ancient Wu's golden light injures their hearts and souls even while they shelter inside the body. When Su Ming exits, Xuan Shang resumes the main-soul position and can make the body flee pursuing Fire Spirits, yet the group remains vulnerable to attacks on consciousness and to opponents such as Zhu You Cai. Separation in the Fifth Furnace

Within the Furnace, Xuan Shang's group fights Zhu You Cai and suffers when the cry of Su Ming's Life Inequity Spear directly attacks their minds. After Su Ming takes lasting control of the Xuan Family treasure, Xuan Shang separates from the departing group. He broods over revenge for the stolen inheritance rather than following them. Before he can act, the Furnace activates and its suction pulls him back inside despite his resistance. The last direct report says he is still struggling there without a way out. (Chapters 1002–1030)

Appearance and personality

Xuan Shang appears as a man in his thirties wearing a long dark-green robe. He presents a polite smile and speaks deferentially when negotiation offers safety. Underneath that diplomacy he is protective of his family's property and capable of deep resentment; once separated from Su Ming, his thoughts turn immediately to repayment. (Chapters 948, 1024)

Abilities and cultivation

Xuan Shang can fly and deploy a pearl that explodes into a huge net capable of trapping a Nascent Divinity. The effort leaves him pale and apparently consumes most of his strength, making it a costly restraining technique rather than an effortless attack. (Chapter 949)

His main strength is learned coordination with three companions inside the Xuan Family's humanoid supreme treasure. As main soul, he directs the body, flies at high speed, and battles powerful cultivators. Its output depends on the souls operating it: Su Ming achieves far more when occupying the central position, while Xuan Shang and the others suffer whenever sound or light attacks penetrate to their minds. The treasure also cannot overcome the Fifth Furnace's suction in Xuan Shang's last scene. (Chapters 997–1002, 1024–1030)

• Yun You, Nian Yin, and Hua Yu: They are his long-term companions and the other operating souls of the Xuan Family treasure. (Chapters 948–949, 997–1002)
• Su Ming: Xuan Shang submits for survival and benefits from Su Ming's control, but later regards his seizure of the family treasure as an offense demanding revenge. (Chapters 949, 997–1024)
• Lu Ka: Xuan Shang claims friendship with the Dust Burners' tribe leader and carries his authentication token. (Chapter 948)
