Vermilion Bird

The Vermilion Bird is Morning Dao Sect's fire-aligned guardian Spirit Beast, one of a fourfold set with the Azure Dragon, White Tiger, and Black Turtle. It emerges during Dao Kong's ceremony and later dies defending the sect from Su Xuan Yi.

Biography

The Fifth Furnace and Morning Dao

The Vermilion Bird first flies from Dao Ocean beside the Black Turtle while the other cardinal Spirit Beasts assemble around the Anointment Ceremony. Its immense body and fiery presence form part of Morning Dao Sect's institutional spectacle and defensive authority rather than an independent quest. It remains associated with the continent bearing its name as the sect assigns the Dynasts future war achievements. (Chapters 1094–1112)

When Su Xuan Yi attacks and destroys the sect without sparing even civilians, all four Spirit Beasts charge from Dao Ocean. The Vermilion Bird is fastest and closes first, choosing direct defense despite the power disparity. Su Xuan Yi surrounds it with a sea of fire; although born of fire, it screams and is reduced to ashes. Its death shows that elemental affinity is resistance, not immunity to superior fire and cultivation law. (Chapter 1140)

Appearance and personality

The Vermilion Bird is gigantic and entirely fire-red, resembling a mass of astonishing flame. It roars rather than speaking. Its immediate charge against Su Xuan Yi supports a protective, aggressive instinct, but the corpus does not provide human-like dialogue or an individual inner life. (Chapters 1094, 1140)

Abilities and cultivation

The bird is innately born of fire, flies at extreme speed, and carries the mighty presence expected of a sect Spirit Beast. Among the four guardians it reaches Su Xuan Yi first. No named attack or exact cultivation realm is recorded. (Chapter 1140)

Its fatal limit is explicit: birth from fire does not protect it from a stronger cultivator's sea of fire. Su Xuan Yi destroys it with one swung-arm attack before it can demonstrate a counter. Its strength also operates as part of the four-beast defensive system rather than alone. (Chapter 1140)
