Shen Dong
Shen Dong is Evil Spirit Sect's Grand Sect Elder and strongest resident cultivator during the Immortal occupation of the Berserker lands. A great-circle Ascendant surrounded by perpetual black smoke, he survives both Ji An's brutal trial and Su Ming's later purge, leaving the destroyed sect under Su Ming's explicit protection.
Biography
South Morning and the Immortal conflict
Shen Dong first appears meditating in a gloomy temple atop Evil Spirit Mountain. Ji An's altered Eastern Wastelands Bell selects him as the first subject of a sect-wide trial intended to force frantic advancement. A late-Ascendant strike breaks his shadow but fails to destroy him; Shen Dong emerges, declares the force insufficient, and charges the bell. His performance establishes both his great-circle Ascendant cultivation and his role as the standard against which Evil Spirit Sect measures survival. (Chapters 615–617)
He later leads the attempt to seize Hidden Dragon Sect's Bright Yang Stone, accurately reconstructing Gu Yuan Hai's diversion and Su Ming's bargain from limited clues. During Su Ming's confrontation with the Immortals, Shen Dong recognizes the extraordinary emergence of a personal Dao but is caught in the terror and pressure afflicting the sect's forces. When Berserkers finally take Evil Spirit Mountain, Su Ming orders Shen Dong and one controlled woman released politely; nearly everyone else is killed and Tian Qi's clan occupies the mountain. His destination after departure is not recorded. (Chapters 624–677, 712)
Appearance and personality
Shen Dong is a middle-aged man with rather long hair and a long blue robe. He is eerie, controlled, and highly observant: he remains calm beneath pressure that shakes other Immortals and reads a complicated theft from circumstantial evidence. His confidence is martial rather than reckless, and he recognizes when an unknown opponent or mission is not worth needless escalation. (Chapters 615–626)
Abilities and cultivation
Shen Dong is at the great circle of the Ascendant Stage, equivalent locally to great completion in the Berserker Soul Realm. Everlasting black smoke rising from Evil Spirit Mountain is described as a symbol of his power, and a black shadow can take the force of Ji An's trial before revealing his body. The exact defensive mechanism and cost of the shadow are not fully stated. (Chapters 615–617)
His combat resilience lets him withstand a late-Ascendant-level trial, but the record does not show him overcoming Ji An, Su Ming, or the final Berserker army. His analytical ability is distinct from cultivation: he infers the Bright Yang Stone's hidden division and Su Ming's delaying bargain, but cannot force Su Ming to disclose it. (Chapters 617, 624–626, 667–712)
