Mei Lan
Mei Lan is an old World Paragon who controls part of resource-poor Crimson Flame Planet. She greets Su Ming with formal hospitality while trying to force him and the Crimson Python Phoenix away, but a short, costly battle leaves her barred from his northern region. Her extracted memories later become the source of Blood Identification Pearls, bringing Su back to her after a millennium.
Biography
South Morning and the Immortal conflict
Mei Lan presents herself as a host and offers to send Su Ming onward after seven days, but her smile and pressure make the threat beneath the courtesy clear. She focuses on his Crimson Python Phoenix and eight-colored crystal, while Tian Lin interposes himself and warns that the crystal can freeze her soul. Mei Lan believes she could eventually break free and is willing to abandon the planet if necessary, yet Su refuses to overlook her attempt to kill his servant. (Chapter 758)
Their fight pits her World Paragon power and damaged white flag against Su's endurance, life absorption, replenishment through spirit stones, and the Python Phoenix's support. Every close exchange costs her flesh and blood while Su ignores terrible injuries. Recognizing that he has not used his full strength, Mei Lan accepts Tian Lin's mediation and silently withdraws under Su's condition that she no longer enter the northern region without permission. The result transfers effective authority over that region to Su. (Chapters 759–760)
Mei Lan declines Tian Lin's later expedition because her ambitions differ from his. She remains in the eastern region while Su releases the planet's sealed beasts, and a later vision shows her kneeling before a gray-robed old man who presses a palm to her head as Su's form emerges behind her. The images connect her memories to forces investigating Su but do not show that she willingly cooperates. (Chapters 764, 790)
Divine Essence and Ecang
A millennium later, another cultivator at the peak of initial World Plane Realm has overpowered Mei Lan and become Crimson Flame Planet's strongest ruler, demonstrating that her World Paragon status does not guarantee permanent dominance. Su returns to her stone house because the four Great True Worlds extracted her memories and used them to create Blood Identification Pearls. Mei Lan recognizes that he would eventually come; the dossier ends as he enters and sits to speak with her, leaving her later fate unresolved. (Chapters 854–856)
Appearance and personality
Mei Lan is an old woman with a hoarse, grinding voice whose sound physically pains weaker listeners. Her smiles rarely reach her eyes. She is proud, territorial, and willing to threaten newcomers, but pragmatic enough to accept mediation when continued battle would be ruinous. She keeps her own aims rather than joining Tian Lin's plan and survives long enough to reassess a changed balance of power.
Abilities and cultivation
Mei Lan has World Paragon power. Her pressure affects hundreds of cultivators and can be opposed by the Crimson Python Phoenix. She forms or summons a huge damaged white flag; its black-thread circle becomes dozens of ring-shaped threads used offensively. Her piercing cry can terrify hearts, and she claims she can eventually break a temporary soul-freeze from Su's eight-colored crystal. (Chapters 758–759)
Crimson Flame Planet's scarcity slows recovery, so World Paragons avoid wasting stored cultivation unless forced. Mei Lan's fight exposes that logistical limit: repeated loss of flesh and power cannot be replenished as rapidly as Su restores himself with absorption and spirit stones. A later peak-initial World Plane cultivator can overpower her by brute strength, showing that realm labels alone do not fix combat outcomes.
Relationships
- Su Ming: Territorial rival who defeats and restricts her, then returns because her extracted memories enabled the Blood Identification Pearls.
- Tian Lin: Neighbor of centuries and mediator who prevents the first battle from continuing; she declines his expedition.
- Crimson Python Phoenix: Its presence counters her pressure and strengthens Su's position.
- The four Great True Worlds: Extract her memories for a tracking device, with no clear evidence that she consented.
Items
Mei Lan wields a damaged white flag with a black-thread circle that manifests binding or attacking rings. The Blood Identification Pearls are made from extracted memories associated with her, but are created and used by the four Great True Worlds rather than owned by Mei Lan.
