Huang Mei

Huang Mei is a yellow-browed Almighty known for seeking the bodies of Ancestral Spirits. He enters the Fifth Furnace as Reverend Zi Long's near equal, relying on wagers and schemes to avoid direct conflict until the Furnace's trials and Su Ming's maneuvering isolate him.

Biography

Divine Essence and Ecang

Huang Mei meets Zi Long with elaborate courtesy while each assesses the other's realm and treasures. Since both are powerful enough that a direct battle would be costly, they wager one-time abnegation over which entrant will emerge next from the Furnace fire. Huang Mei chooses Flame Fiends' Progenitor and loses when Su Ming arrives first, creating an obligation to surrender a chosen opportunity. The episode establishes his preference for controlled gambles over uncertain combat. (Chapters 980–981)

He later reads subtle changes around Huo Kui's Nascent Divinity and treats the Ancient Wu-blooded centipede with wary resentment. His interest in unusual bodies makes him attentive to physical vessels, but the gathering's interlocking threats prevent him from simply taking what he wants. (Chapters 992–993)

The Fifth Furnace and Morning Dao

Inside later borders, Huang Mei is injured badly enough to need more recovery time than Zi Long. Zi Long deliberately leaves early, drawing Fire Spirits before Huang Mei can regulate his breathing and placing him at a tactical disadvantage. Su Ming compounds the isolation through false goodwill and shifting alliances. (Chapters 1003–1004)

Huang Mei eventually receives a dangerous chance to absorb power, with an explicit warning to stop when he can no longer sustain it and find safety. The offer is a serendipity but also a limit test; the corpus does not establish a clean escape, later realm, or final fate for him. (Chapters 1017–1024)

Appearance and personality

Huang Mei has long yellow brows growing past his ears, black hair, and a strange sweet aroma. He carries a gourd and drinks from it. His easy laughter and politeness conceal suspicion, resentment, and constant calculation. He is farsighted but can still be disadvantaged when rivals control the timing. (Chapters 978–980, 992–1004)

Abilities and cultivation

Huang Mei is close to completion of Mastery Realm and can perceive laws of fate and concealed power shifts that lesser experts miss. His reputation centers on Ancestral Spirit bodies, though the exact method by which he uses them is not demonstrated. (Chapters 980, 992)

The Fifth Furnace imposes clear limits: its power prevents outside Almighties from advancing freely, injuries slow his recovery, and Fire Spirits remain dangerous. His later absorption opportunity must be stopped at personal capacity or it becomes harmful, showing that even beneficial external power cannot be taken without limit. (Chapters 1003–1017)

Relationships

  • Zi Long: A peer, wager partner, and rival who later exploits Huang Mei's slower recovery. (Chapters 980–1004)
  • Su Ming: Initially underestimated entrant and later political manipulator whose apparent goodwill keeps Huang Mei from acting decisively. (Chapters 981–1004)
  • Huo Kui: Huang Mei chooses him in the wager and watches his loss of body with intense interest. (Chapters 980–993)

Items

  • Gourd: Huang Mei carries and drinks from it; Zi Long also watches it carefully, suggesting significance, but its power is not demonstrated. (Chapters 978–980)
