Guru Xing Chen
Guru Xing Chen is an infamous cultivator from Ancient Zang's past whose preserved shadow becomes the eleventh opponent in Seven Moons Sect's Dao Divinity Shadow Descension Rune. His reputation rests on a temporary Secret Art and the Space Whip, but his encounter with Su Ming exposes the limits of both.
Biography
Ancient Zang and the final truth
Three thousand years before Su Ming's trial, Guru Xing Chen brings chaos to Ancient Zang and fights Seven Moons Sect. Though naturally only at the initial stage of Avanicaya Realm, he uses a secret method to reach the first level of Dao Divinity for six hours and slaughters elite disciples with ease. A sect elder of the ninth line finally kills him. Seven Moons Sect cannot extract the Secret Art even by searching his soul, so it destroys his body but preserves and seals his shadow for study. (Chapter 1399)
When Su Ming activates the eleventh formation, starlight gathers into Guru Xing Chen's Dao Shadow. The apparition carries the old cultivator's killing intent and summons black phoenixes before revealing an illusory Space Whip. Su Ming resists the whip's attempt to stir his memories, seizes it, and uses time reversal during Soulseek to discover the true treasure's origin. Guru Xing Chen's shadow then disappears, winning Su Ming greater acceptance from Seven Moons Sect's disciples. Much later, Su Ming reverses time at an ice gate and sees a historical reflection of Guru Xing Chen performing the required bows there; this is a recovered scene from the past, not the shadow's resurrection. (Chapters 1398–1400, 1430)
Appearance and personality
Guru Xing Chen manifests as an old man's shadow formed from starlight and is associated with overwhelming pressure, crazed killing intent, and a ferocious smile. He is boastful enough to explain the abilities that made him feared, a habit Su Ming immediately recognizes as a tactical weakness. His old violence has left deep hatred among the Seven Moons disciples who survived its consequences.
Abilities and cultivation
Guru Xing Chen's base realm is explicitly the initial stage of Avanicaya. His learned Secret Art temporarily raises him to the first level of Dao Divinity, but only for about six hours; it is not a permanent advancement. Its mechanism remains hidden even after Seven Moons Sect searches his soul. As a Dao Shadow he can manifest enormous pressure, black phoenix attacks, and an illusory Space Whip. The whip can stir a target's memories and represents a projection of a true treasure, yet Su Ming can resist that effect through cultivation and physically seize the projection. The preserved shadow is also limited by its nature as a Rune opponent: when defeated, it disappears rather than returning to independent life. (Chapters 1399–1400)
Relationships
- Su Ming: Guru Xing Chen serves as Su Ming's eleventh Rune opponent. Su Ming defeats the shadow and extracts clues about the Secret Art and true Space Whip by reversing time through its soul. (Chapters 1399–1400)
- Seven Moons Sect: The sect loses many disciples to him, kills his body through a senior elder, and seals his shadow because it cannot recover his Secret Art. (Chapter 1399)
- Wang Tao: Seven Moons disciples initially discuss Guru Xing Chen as an exceptionally dangerous possible opponent in the formation, though Su Ming is the one who actually confronts the shadow in the cited sequence. (Chapter 1399)
Items
- Space Whip: Guru Xing Chen's Dao Shadow wields an illusory red whip capable of stirring memories. The real treasure is associated with a red thread connecting nine pearls in Su Ming's reversed vision; the shadow does not possess the original permanently. (Chapter 1400)
