Fang Shen
Fang Shen is the leader of Tranquil East Tribe and father of Fang Mu. He cultivates Su Ming's goodwill when the young man travels as Mo Su, but his central conflict is between paternal responsibility and political survival. For nineteen years he conceals the truth behind Fang Mu's injuries to avoid Si Ma Xin's retaliation; when Su offers a cure, Fang Shen finally resigns as tribe leader so he can act as a father.
Biography
Welcoming Mo Su under Si Ma Xin's shadow
Fang Shen greets Mo Su with unusual warmth and invites him into the tribe's tower, signaling approval that reassures Fang Mu. He supports Mo's Han Mountain challenge and offers to defend his Awakening. Yet the tribe remains under Si Ma Xin's pressure. When Si arrives through Fang Mu's body, Fang Shen bows while suppressing his pain and watches the cultivator assert possession over the bell, Fang Mu, and Han Cang Zi. His courtesy is therefore both diplomacy and the behavior of a leader who knows open resistance could destroy his people. (Chapters 141–197)
Choosing fatherhood over office
Su returns as an acknowledged Divine General to fulfill his promise to heal Fang Mu. Fang Shen respectfully brings him to his son but struggles because treatment will offend Si Ma Xin. He admits that he knew the source of Fang Mu's suffering and maintained a false search for cures to hide his inaction. When pressed to choose, Fang Shen ends nineteen years of placing office first: he resigns from Tranquil East Tribe and accepts the consequences so he can support the cure as Fang Mu's father. The tribe later joins in publicly honoring Su. (Chapters 205–213)
Appearance and personality
Fang Shen wears virescent robes and presents a boisterous, friendly manner in diplomacy. Behind that confidence he carries persistent conflict and shame. He is politically cautious enough to endure humiliation for the tribe, but not emotionally indifferent; his grief becomes open laughter when the contradiction can no longer be maintained. His resignation is a late act of decisiveness after years of compromise. (Chapters 141–213)
Abilities and cultivation
Fang Shen is a powerful Berserker by local tribal standards and can travel in long arcs with Tranquil East's warriors. He participates in guarding Su Ming's Awakening, but the dossier does not give his formal realm, name a personal Art, or show him resolving a major battle. His authority is chiefly political and organizational rather than a source for precise power claims. (Chapters 173–213)
His influence lets him mobilize tribal defenders and speak on behalf of Tranquil East. That authority has a clear limit: Si Ma Xin's personal power and backing are enough that Fang Shen believes defiance could bring collective punishment. (Chapters 197–213)
