Dao Fa
Dao Fa is one of Morning Dao Sect's Great Dynasts and an established rival in the Anointment Ceremony. He initially treats the returned Dao Kong's low formal rank with mild condescension, but repeated victories transform that attitude into fear. When the other Dynasts submit to Su Ming's authority, Dao Fa alone refuses, and the defiance ends in his complete destruction.
Biography
The Fifth Furnace and Morning Dao
Dao Fa appears as a gentle-looking middle-aged Dynast with a birthmark on his neck. He joins the explanation that Dao Kong's thousand-year absence has reduced his rank and notes the achievements of better-positioned Dynasts. His own standing is substantial: he and Dao Lin have cleared the second Striking Lands and reached the ninth stage of the third, accomplishments spectators use as benchmarks for Su Ming's trial. (Chapters 1070–1075)
As Su clears successive Striking Lands, Dao Fa's sour confidence gives way to solemnity, pressure, and fear. Prompted by the tanned elder who supports him, he challenges Su despite privately recognizing that collective action does not suit his character. Dao Lin and the other Great Dynasts follow, turning personal insecurity into a nine-way attempt to suppress the new rival. (Chapters 1076–1082)
Su overwhelms them and demands submission. Seven kneel quickly and Dao Lin finally follows, but Dao Fa remains standing with his former gentleness replaced by a sinister glare. Even his elder's order to kneel and apologize cannot save him. Su releases the Life Inequity Spear; it outruns the elder's intervention, tears Dao Fa's body apart, and destroys his soul and Nascent Divinity. His blood striking the kneeling Dynasts makes his death the final enforcement of Su's position. (Chapter 1085)
Appearance and personality
Dao Fa is a middle-aged man with a distinct birthmark on his neck and a normally gentle manner. He first speaks with restrained condescension and later minimizes Su's progress, but the facade erodes as the threat becomes undeniable. His final refusal to kneel shows real pride and resolve, though his earlier group challenge also reveals fear of losing political standing. The text presents this mixture without identifying a grander principle behind his defiance.
Abilities and cultivation
Dao Fa's demonstrated measure of power is institutional and trial-based. He is a Great Dynast who cleared the first two Striking Lands and reached the ninth stage of the third, placing him above many Morning Dao peers. He can endure the pressure long enough to remain the final standing Dynast, and he possesses both a soul and Nascent Divinity.
No named personal technique or exact cultivation realm is demonstrated in his dossier, so those should not be inferred from his title. His trial record is explicitly surpassed by Su Ming, and his defenses cannot stop the Life Inequity Spear. The weapon destroys body, soul, and Nascent Divinity in one attack; even a powerful elder moving to protect him is too slow to intervene. (Chapters 1074, 1085)
