Chen Chong

Chen Chong is a popular, slightly plump prodigy of Wind Stream Tribe whose talent is considered second only to Ye Wang's. Sociable but fiercely competitive, he places third in the first Wind Stream Mountain trial and later helps escort Dark Mountain Tribe's survivors. A similarly named Hidden Dragon Sect cultivator, Chenchong, resembles him in the Immortal conflict but is explicitly a separate counterpart.

Biography

Dark Mountain and the Berserker awakening

Chen Chong arrives at the Wind Stream trials already famous for both strength and approachable character. Younger candidates cluster around him because he makes friends readily, and merchants know him as a regular buyer of cultivation herbs. On the mountain stairs, however, his genial manner gives way to pride and rivalry. He repeatedly pushes himself to overtake Bi Su, climbing despite exhaustion and abandoning the ranking tablet when Su Ming's rise threatens to disturb his concentration. He finishes behind Ye Wang and Bi Su in the first test and ranks second behind Ye Wang in the strength-related second test. (Chapters 50–77)

When Dark Mountain Tribe evacuates, Chen Chong and Ye Wang lead Wind Stream Berserkers sent to escort its people. This places his status and talent in service of the allied tribe rather than only personal ranking. The corpus does not provide a later confirmed fate for this original Chen Chong. (Chapter 105)

South Morning and the Immortal conflict

Centuries later, Su Ming sees Hidden Dragon Sect's Chenchong and is struck by his resemblance to the Wind Stream prodigy: slightly plump, talented below Ye Wang, lazy about training, and surrounded by friends. This Chenchong later attacks Su Ming with a purification vase after Jingnan's death. Translator notes distinguish their written names and identify Chenchong as Chen Chong's Immortal counterpart, so these scenes illuminate the recurring imposed identities around Su Ming but do not establish what happened to the original tribesman. (Chapters 572, 644, 694)

Appearance and personality

Chen Chong is slightly plump and physically imposing enough to draw attention even before the trials. He is comical, talkative, and easier to approach than the gloomy Wu Sen, with a network of admirers and acquaintances. Competition exposes his stubborn pride: he curses Bi Su while climbing, refuses to surrender despite extreme fatigue, and ultimately avoids checking rankings to preserve his focus.

Abilities and cultivation

Blood Solidification cultivation

Chen Chong is one of Wind Stream Tribe's leading young Berserkers and produces pressure Su Ming distinguishes from ordinary blood qi. His precise number of blood veins is not stated in the preserved evidence, so it cannot be inferred from his test placement. His second-place result in a strength-and-cultivation test confirms high ability relative to his peers but a clear gap below Ye Wang. (Chapters 50–77)

Endurance and competitive focus

On Wind Stream Mountain, Chen Chong advances beyond five hundred steps under escalating pressure, continuing even while panting, sweating, and forced onto all fours. He initially lets Bi Su's ranking provoke him, then stops looking at the tablet so comparison will not damage his mindset. This is demonstrated physical and mental endurance rather than a named technique. (Chapters 52–70)

Counterpart's purification vase

Hidden Dragon Sect's Chenchong summons a jewel-encrusted purification vase when attacking Su Ming. Because the text identifies him as a separate counterpart, the vase and any power it carries do not belong to the original Chen Chong's demonstrated arsenal. (Chapter 694)
