Bei Qiong

Bei Qiong first appears as a talkative old peddler who sells herbs by borrowing the reputations of famous customers. In Ancient Zang, Su Ming encounters a nearly identical man selling false medicinal cores. That resemblance proves consequential: the later Bei Qiong knows that Su's lived world is Harmonious Morus Alba, urges the third prince to wake, and is eventually identified as the first person to possess the power of wills.

Biography

Dark Mountain and the Berserker awakening

At Wind Stream Tribe, Bei Qiong enthusiastically pushes a large bundle of herbs on Su Ming. He advertises supposed connections to Chen Chong, Wu Sen, and Mo Su in order to make the sale credible, despite speaking directly to the person behind the Mo Su identity. The scene establishes his recognizable face, hunched old-peddler manner, and habit of mixing useful goods with shameless claims. (Chapter 76)

Ancient Zang and the final truth

In Seven Moons Sect, Su finds an old man whose face and sales pitch match the remembered Bei Qiong, though the clothes and world are different. This Bei Qiong recognizes Su's absent shadow as evidence of progress in the Seven Lives Art, begs for mercy, and then tries to escape consequences for selling fake medicinal cores. When seized, he calls on his master and sect rules, but institutional rescue fails and Su takes him away as a nominal servant. (Chapters 1391–1393)

Under pressure, Bei Qiong abandons the swindle and addresses Su as Ancient Zang's third prince. He claims Su's experience in Harmonious Morus Alba is a dreamlike life from which he must wake, adding that remembered companions can return if the people remember him. Though Bei Qiong admits to a lifetime of lies, he offers Soulsearch as proof; Su searches him and confirms that the memories support the account. His pity and firmness mark a shift from comic cowardice to a messenger bearing a destabilizing truth. (Chapters 1393–1395)

Later narration calls Bei Qiong the first person to possess the power of wills, with Di Tian the second. This revelation suggests why he can reach across the apparent boundary between Su's histories, but it does not fully resolve whether the Wind Stream peddler and Ancient Zang disciple are one continuous body, connected manifestations, or matching lives. (Chapter 1457)

Appearance and personality

Bei Qiong is an old, bent-backed peddler with an ingratiating manner. He boasts, sells questionable goods, invents connections, and begs readily when threatened. Yet beneath the cowardly performance he can speak with conviction and compassion about Su's identity, even consenting to a potentially harmful Soulsearch. His mixture of habitual dishonesty and confirmed truth makes him deliberately difficult to classify.

Abilities and cultivation

The Ancient Zang Bei Qiong practices the Seven Lives Art and understands its signs, including the absence of a shadow. His exact stage and combat ability are not stated. He is also identified as the earliest known possessor of the power of wills, a rare property shared later by Di Tian; its full mechanics are not demonstrated through a personal attack in his dossier.

His knowledge is more important than force. He recognizes Su's condition and holds memories that withstand Soulsearch. That search is performed by Su and carries a stated risk of harming Bei Qiong's life, emphasizing that Bei Qiong does not control the verification process himself.

Relationships

  • Su Ming: Customer, captor, and the third prince Bei Qiong tries to awaken. Their repeated meeting bridges Dark Mountain and Ancient Zang.
  • His Seven Moons Sect master: Arrives to defend him, but yields when higher sect authority intervenes.
  • Di Tian: Named as the second possessor of wills after Bei Qiong, linking them conceptually rather than as demonstrated allies.

Items

Bei Qiong peddles herbs in Wind Stream Tribe and counterfeit medicinal cores in Ancient Zang. He once gives Su Ming a torn storage bag. None of these goods is shown to provide his unusual knowledge or power of wills.
