The Despairing Demon’s Belt, first called the Demon’s Mouth, is a Hero-ranked artifact containing a despairing demonic consciousness later identified as Beelzebub. Crockta brings it under limited jurisdiction after surviving its attempt to dominate him; the demon is a sentient resident, not Crockta’s property.

The Demon’s Mouth at Quantes

Quantes researchers keep the toothed belt behind a barrier because of its predatory behavior. During the doppelganger attack, it absorbs corrosive matter and attaches itself to Crockta. The demon overwhelms his mind with visions of death and cosmic emptiness, controls his body, and commands surrounding creatures against the city. Tiyo’s appeal and Tashaquil’s residual message help Crockta recover enough agency to confront the consciousness rather than submit. (Chapters 59–62)

Crockta argues that mortality does not make life meaningless and promises to prove that claim through his own life. The belt comes under his jurisdiction, but the system explicitly limits its power because he cannot control it fully, and the demon goes to sleep. Researchers cannot reclaim it: it threatens anyone else who touches it and returns to Crockta when separated. (Chapters 62–63)

Predatory aid and demonic trail

The belt reacts to demonic magic by repelling it from Crockta and later devours the remains sustaining the behemoth’s regeneration. This removes the creature’s source of effectively endless recovery and allows the hunters to kill it. The artifact also increases Crockta’s strength, willpower, and resistance to demonic magic while limited. These benefits remain the belt’s effects, not innate skills Crockta acquires. (Chapters 63–71 and 104)

Its consciousness wakes selectively, speaks, pulls Crockta toward related demonic forces, and reacts to Abaddon’s pyramid. The connections among the belt, Tribulation, the behemoth’s creator, and the Fallen God’s demons are suggested but not fully resolved. By the final battle, the childlike presence within the darkness is named Beelzebub, but God Slayer cuts his manifestation apart and he disappears before the Grey God’s spell later restores affected mortals and gods. The corpus does not establish whether the physical belt or its resident consciousness survives. (Chapters 90–98, 131, 193–195, and 225–226)

Abilities and properties

• Mental domination: The demon can impose nihilistic visions, seize Crockta’s body, and direct creatures. Strong will and personal connection help Crockta resist, but the artifact nearly makes him kill Tiyo. (Chapter 62)
• Predation: Its steel teeth consume substances and large magical remains. Swallowing the behemoth’s sustaining remains stops that creature’s regeneration. The maximum size and general rules of this consumption are not defined. (Chapters 61 and 71)
• Demonic resistance: The limited belt increases strength and willpower and resists invading demonic magic. It can detect or respond to related forces, sometimes by physically pulling its wearer. (Chapters 63, 67, and 193–194)
• Autonomy and limits: It bites unwanted handlers, returns to Crockta, sleeps, wakes, and speaks on its own initiative. Crockta has jurisdiction rather than complete control, and the system restricts power beyond his capacity. (Chapters 62–63, 92–98, and 225)
