Elsanad

Elsanad is Arnin’s former elf mayor, a popular administrator whose sincere desire for a prosperous and beautiful city coexists with rigid standards and the protection of her daughter’s crimes. Ilya falsely accuses her of knowingly running Thawing Balhae’s trafficking operation, but Crockta uncovers a different truth: Elsanad concealed the victims kept beneath her mansion and tries to use her office to suppress the evidence. Both mayor and challenger fall when Crockta exposes them together. (Chapters 34–40)

Ilya once worked with Elsanad and says that they shared the goal of making Arnin happy and that he helped her become mayor before their relationship collapsed. By Crockta’s arrival, Elsanad is overwhelmingly favored for reelection and has expanded the city according to her exacting vision. Her contract with user builders is meant to create medical support for the slums at reduced cost, not to sell the residents; Thawing Balhae exploits the arrangement for kidnapping and trafficking without her knowledge. When the abuses become public, Elsanad accepts responsibility for failing to detect them, promises compensation and investigation, and speaks with enough sincerity to move the rescued victims. Ilya’s ledgers accusing her of profiting from the trafficking are forged. (Chapters 34–38)

That innocence is limited to Ilya’s accusation. Elsanad values beauty so rigidly that workers in her mansion must remain unseen, and she protects her daughter Elwina, who selects visitors and preserves their bodies as a hidden collection. Crockta records the stuffed victims in the basement of Elsanad’s home and plays the evidence during her debate with Ilya. Elsanad first treats Ilya’s confession as proof of her own innocence, then orders the guards to stop Crockta when the recording reaches her mansion. After the display, she invokes prejudice and mayoral authority in a final attempt to delay arrest. Crockta’s honorary citizenship defeats that defense, and the guards take both exposed politicians into custody. (Chapters 38–40)

Arnin later memorializes the expulsion of Elsanad, Elwina, and Ilya as the city’s three “demons” and teaches Crockta’s intervention as a civic lesson. Crockta sees Elsanad and Ilya again among many lives during his cosmic vision, but the scene supplies no location, release, reconciliation, or renewed political role. Her exact post-arrest custody and later conduct therefore remain unconfirmed. (Chapters 199 and 226)

Appearance and personality

Elsanad is a beautiful elf woman with white skin, vivid green eyes, and an elegant public presentation. She wears carefully chosen dresses, jewelry, and a sky-colored coat, and is compared to a goddess or artwork. Her detailed attention to appearance extends to every room, garden, and public project under her control. (Chapters 36–38)

She is affectionate toward Elwina and sincerely invested in Arnin’s prosperity, but her love is possessive and her standards exclude whatever disrupts her preferred image. Her directness and composure make strangers mistake her for gentle; her secretary instead understands her as strong, uncompromising, and sometimes heartless. That combination explains both her effective administration and her central failure: she can care for “all citizens” in public while hiding the people harmed within her own household. Skills, powers, and limitations

Elsanad’s demonstrated strengths are government administration, public speaking, and the institutional authority of the mayor. She coordinates construction, budgets, city staff, compensation, and an election campaign; when accused, she addresses the public directly and nearly restores confidence through a sincere apology. Crockta’s Mind’s Eye initially fails because her level is higher than his, but this does not establish a combat class, spell list, or personal supernatural technique. (Chapters 36–38)

Her authority depends on public trust and lawful office. Ilya’s forged evidence can divide the city, while Crockta’s recordings remove the ambiguity and turn the guards against her. Elsanad tries to counter by ordering the evidence stopped and arguing that an orc outsider lacks standing, but Crockta’s honorary citizenship makes the accusation legitimate. No chapter shows her fighting, escaping arrest, or retaining mayoral power afterward. (Chapters 38–40)

Relationships

• Elwina: Elsanad loves her daughter and regrets the time public service kept them apart, but she also shields Elwina’s lethal collecting of visitors. Protecting her daughter makes Elsanad complicit in concealing the basement victims and contributes directly to her fall. (Chapters 36–39)
• Ilya: Ilya was once Elsanad’s friend and political supporter. He later traffics citizens and tries to replace her through forged evidence; their debate ends with Crockta exposing separate crimes committed or concealed by both of them. (Chapters 34–40)
• Crockta: Elsanad does not initially know Crockta, but his investigation proves her innocent of Ilya’s false charge and guilty of protecting Elwina. She attempts to dismiss him as an outsider until he invokes the citizenship Arnin previously granted him. (Chapters 37–40)
• Alsein: Elsanad’s secretary supports her administration and tries to moderate her expensive aesthetic plans. His knowledge of the hidden victims eventually leads him to direct Crockta to the mansion’s basement. (Chapters 36–39)
