Belial's Staff

The Belial's Staff is a myth-rated great-demon weapon that passes from Grid to Braham, enabling demanding simultaneous spellcasting before Grid's later innovation gives it the far more dangerous ability to reproduce magical afterimages. (Chapters 647, 1139, 1258, 1497, and 1804)

History

Original custody and the same-name boundary

The original staff is first documented in Grid's possession while he performs a Magician's Guild mission. Same-name reproductions used elsewhere are separate objects: their damage, repair limits, and custody do not belong to the original profiled here. (Chapter 647)

Item Combination and Braham's staff

Grid uses the original as both a magician's weapon and a component for Item Combination. When combined with the Enlightenment Sword, it becomes the handle of a hybrid weapon whose effects include accelerated casting, triple casting, and automatically generated shields. Grid later hands the separate staff to Braham at Braham's request. (Chapters 806, 846, and 1139)

Innovation and retirement

Grid eventually strengthens the staff with materials from a hell expedition and his power of Innovation. The altered staff surprises even Braham by leaving magical afterimages that reproduce spells. By Chapter 1804, however, Braham has abandoned the long-used staff in favor of a weapon tied to his mental world. (Chapters 1497 and 1804)

Abilities and properties

• The staff raises intelligence and magic casting speed and permits three spells to be cast at once, but this triple casting requires enough proficiency to control it. The difficulty is compared with Dantalion's similarly demanding staff. (Chapters 806 and 1258)
• In its temporary combination with the Enlightenment Sword, simultaneous fire and dark magic are amplified, and each spell or weapon-triggered magical effect can create a shield. These are properties of the combined form, not proof that the uncombined staff produces every listed effect alone. (Chapters 806 and 846)
• Grid's later Innovation causes a spell to leave afterimages that reproduce it, multiplying a small number of Meteors into a much larger barrage of weaker copies. This is a multidimensional effect rather than a simple increase to one spell's power. (Chapter 1497)
• The strengthened form is difficult and hazardous to control. Braham judges that an ordinary magician could be overwhelmed by it and risk self-destruction. (Chapter 1497)
