Zhang Zheng
Zhang Zheng is a Chinese rookie who defeats Bubat in National Competition PvP and proclaims the superiority of his generation. His cruelty and arrogance make Grid an eager opponent, but Grid dismantles his damage-reflection strategy without fighting him directly. (Chapters 763–766, 936, and 946)
Biography
Role in Kingdom Building and the Great Demons
Zhang Zheng represents China in the National Competition and provokes Bubat before defeating him. He then mocks Tarma's loss to Grid and insists that rapidly developed third-generation rookies are naturally superior to older players. His conduct toward Bubat is severe enough that Bubat, despite his hostility toward Grid, warns Grid about the armor that reflects accumulated damage at triple strength. (Chapters 763–764)
In the round of sixteen, Zhang Zheng insults Grid and expects the reflected damage to punish any direct attack. Grid instead lets the God Hands repeatedly stun him with Mjolnir while Iyarugt blocks his advance. Zhang Zheng's armor periodically explodes and releases him, but chains only delay the summons and he cannot reach Grid. The public humiliation contradicts his claims about the old generation, though later competitors still remember his earlier defeat of Bubat as a meaningful result. (Chapters 765–766, 936, and 946)
Appearance and personality
The supplied chapters do not establish Zhang Zheng's detailed physical appearance. He is usually shown leaning casually, laughing at a defeated senior, or roaring when immobilized. He is provocative, generationally arrogant, and deeply concerned with public prestige. Once helpless, he loses composure and interprets Grid's item-based tactics as cowardice rather than revising his assumptions. (Chapters 764–766)
Abilities, classes, and skills
Zhang Zheng is a capable swordsman able to defeat Bubat and exchange blows with Iyarugt for a time. His Black King's Armor releases an explosion after enough damage accumulates and reflects three times that damage, while chains can restrain multiple God Hands. The armor requires accumulated hits and has a severe penalty Grid identifies, making controlled low-damage attacks and repeated crowd control an effective counter. (Chapters 764–766)
