Zednos

Zednos is a wind-specialist player who advances from the Tzedakah Guild's leading support magician to the Storm Magician and lord of Reidan. His magic excels at battlefield control, from isolating groups inside storms to holding back a tsunami with a wind barrier, while his unusually deep understanding of spell structure keeps him at the top of his normal-class ranking. Service under Grid also pushes him beyond raiding: he accepts responsibility for Reidan, protects its residents, and manages the political consequences of vampires becoming Overgeared citizens. (Chapters 151, 290, 302, 1043, 1087, 1103, 1142–1144, 1151, and 1897)

Biography

Recurring role and later consequences

At Bairan, Zednos initially recommends abandoning the village because Neberius's debuffs make victory unlikely and a defeat would cost experience, items, money, and time. When reminded that rebuilding cannot restore dead residents, he changes his position and joins the defense, establishing a pragmatic caution that still yields to responsibility. As the guild becomes Overgeared, he specializes entirely in wind magic, controls groups during vampire expeditions, and fights beside Jishuka even when isolation and depleted mana make retreat the safer choice. His utility comes from creating the time and space in which allies can survive or finish an encounter, rather than from pursuing damage alone. (Chapters 151, 204, 290, 302, 305, and 374)

Zednos later participates in large operations such as the Berith campaign and is appointed one of the new territorial lords after the original meritorious retainers leave office. Succeeding Chris at Reidan proves more difficult than combat: public sentiment falls, the economy enters a crisis, administrative meetings consume his hunting time, and maintaining his class ranking becomes work rather than recreation. He nevertheless preserves policies intended to spare valuable soldiers and remains in charge when Marie Rose and Fenrir pass through the city. The experience demonstrates both his loyalty and a real limitation—magical mastery does not automatically make him an expert administrator. (Chapters 1043, 1087, 1103, and 1142)

He continues serving as Reidan's lord while joining dangerous field operations. During the Fenrir raid, Zednos studies Braham's enhanced magic, identifies it as a complete formula rather than a shortcut based on blood, and helps time the party's ultimate attacks around Fenrir's defenses. When vampires throughout the cities become citizens, he reports the loss of the old hunting grounds and immediately implements Grid's order to feed them with monsters. Much later, facing an imoogi and King Sobyeol, he complains tearfully that Grid's incidents have become terrifying but still raises a barrier that stops a lake-sized tsunami in a straight wall. (Chapters 1142–1144, 1151, and 1897)

Appearance and personality

The corpus does not establish a fixed physical portrait for Zednos. It presents him visually through his role: a rear-line magician supporting allies, a lord trapped behind documents, or a distressed wind caster erecting a barrier under impossible conditions. Sweat, exhaustion, a reddened face under magical charm, and his tearful expression before the imoogi describe immediate reactions rather than permanent features. (Chapters 151, 374, 1103, and 1897)

Zednos is cautious, analytical, loyal, and capable of changing his mind when a practical calculation overlooks human consequences. He can sound pessimistic before an unfavorable battle, but repeatedly remains after the danger becomes clear. His single-attribute commitment shows patience and ambition, while his analysis of Braham's formulas shows genuine scholarly discipline. Administrative pressure and extraordinary enemies make him openly anxious, yet those complaints do not prevent him from carrying out Grid's orders or protecting the party. (Chapters 151, 302, 1103, 1143–1144, 1151, and 1897)

Abilities, classes, and skills

Wind specialization. Zednos deliberately learns only wind magic even after reaching his third advancement, hoping complete specialization will lead to a hidden class. He becomes the Storm Magician and the leading wind magician. Wind Curtain weakens chain lightning, Wind Wave and other projectiles hold corridors, and wind barriers can separate people, protect allies, or stop a tsunami. The specialization gives him exceptional control within one element but leaves ordinary utility gaps, such as being unable to cast basic light magic in a dark labyrinth. (Chapters 290, 302, 374, 1087, and 1897)

Storm of Eternity and area control. Storm of Eternity can trap a large group for between thirty seconds and five minutes. No attack can enter from outside while it is active, so it is a containment tool rather than free damage; at the vampire city it removes fifty enemies long enough for Vantner and the rest of the party to recover and reorganize. His other large-scale spells likewise aim to slow enemy momentum, and casting them can attract enough attention that he requires protection. (Chapters 290, 305, and 1142)

Magical analysis and ranking. Zednos is one of the few normal-class players who does not lose the top position in his class ranking, and magician rankers use him as a model because of his understanding of formulas and application. He distinguishes highest-point and echo theories from Braham's enhanced magic, recognizes the importance of exact control over which targets a spell affects, and reasons through Fenrir's protection of domination. This expertise improves tactical calls but does not grant Braham's casting speed or power; Zednos still depends on allies to create openings for high-grade magic. (Chapters 1143–1144)

Relationships

Grid is Zednos's guild leader, king, and the source of many missions he regards as alarmingly large. Zednos protects Grid's son from an angry outburst, accepts lordship when the kingdom needs replacement administrators, reports the vampire cities' new status, and follows the resulting feeding order. His late complaint about dying in one of Grid's incidents is affectionate exasperation: he raises the wind barrier while saying it. (Chapters 1087, 1103, 1151, and 1897)

Jishuka is Zednos's early guild master and close battlefield partner. They provide ranged support at Bairan and later defend opposite sides of a trapped corridor. When Jishuka is wounded, Zednos spends his remaining mana to protect her; when she creates an escape route and stays behind, he initially resists leaving but trusts her judgment. Their coordination is rooted in mutual confidence rather than one-sided command. (Chapters 151 and 374)

Braham becomes the subject of Zednos's most serious magical study. Watching Braham cast during the Fenrir expedition lets Zednos reject several popular theories and identify enhanced magic as a perfected formula built through knowledge and complete control. Braham's superiority does not invalidate Zednos's expertise; it is precisely that expertise that lets him understand how exceptional the older magician is. (Chapters 1142–1144)

Fenrir exposes the limits of both Zednos's civic authority and ordinary magic. Fenrir arrives in Reidan with Marie Rose, overwhelms its defenders, and later forces the raid party to work around domination that controls weapons and weakens spells. Zednos contributes analysis and timing during the raid, then manages the aftermath when Fenrir's city and the other vampire settlements become part of the kingdom rather than hunting grounds. (Chapters 1103, 1142–1144, and 1151)
