Randy

Randy is an ancient doppelganger repaired and befriended by Grid. She usually takes the form of a small orange-haired girl based on Wendy, but her defining power is copying another being's form, statistics, and selected skills. Over time, she develops from a protected pet into a family member who wants a body capable of fighting beside Grid. (Chapters 235–236, 769, 1853, 1954, 1962, and 1966–1967)

Biography

Recurring role and later consequences

Grid discovers Randy through Wendy's diary and learns that the gentle doppelganger has already accumulated unusual wisdom, relationships, and combat experience. Pagma had repaired her in the past, and Grid repairs her again rather than treating her as a disposable monster. Randy adopts Wendy's childhood appearance, speaks with the ability of a young child, and accepts Grid's promise that she can live happily as his friend, establishing the emotional basis of their bond before she becomes a regular combat companion. (Chapters 235–236)

Randy's copied forms repeatedly let her protect Grid's group by reproducing techniques that would otherwise belong to a stronger combatant. She copies Grid against the Slaughterer, uses Revolve, exchanges places with a copied target, and is sometimes sacrificed to stop a lethal attack because her pet status allows her to return after a recovery period. Grid later refuses to exclude pets from his resources for the sake of artificial fairness, while Randy and Noe defend allies with Grid's sword dances and barriers, turning companionship into an active battlefield role rather than a purely domestic one. (Chapters 243–244, 385, 387–388, 769, and 1145)

The protection she receives eventually becomes a source of guilt. After Grid lets Randy meet Wendy's preserved soul, Wendy disappears in peace, and Grid begins planning a crafted body around Randy's core. Randy does not want to look exactly like Grid because Irene regards her as a daughter and she has lived as Lord's sister; what she wants is enough strength to stand beside Grid and protect her friends. She therefore trains while waiting for a body that will not endanger her core, and her later intervention with Noe against the immortals' Treasures shows that this desire has already become a continuing responsibility. (Chapters 1853, 1954, 1962, 1966–1967, 1982, and 2013)

Appearance and personality

Randy's usual appearance is a five- or six-year-old girl with orange hair, modeled on Wendy's childhood image. Her doppelganger nature lets her replace that form with the appearance of a copied target, most often Grid during battle. Although her speech initially resembles that of a young child, her accumulated experience and attachment to others make her behavior more mature than the apparent age of her chosen body suggests. (Chapters 235–236, 243, and 769)

She is gentle, affectionate, and highly responsive to the happiness or danger of her companions. Randy accepts Grid as a friend rather than merely an owner, shares an easy sibling-like bond with Noe, and comes to see herself as part of Grid's family. Her reluctance to risk others coexists with frustration at her own limitations, so her late resolve is not a sudden appetite for power but a wish to repay the protection she has received. (Chapters 236, 392, 1613, 1954, 1962, and 1966–1967)

Abilities, classes, and skills

Copy

Copy is Randy's defining doppelganger ability. At level ten, it reproduces a target's form while granting eighty percent of the statistics and random skills of a lower-level target, fifty percent for one at the same level, and twenty percent for a higher-level target. Copying her owner uses thirty percent of his statistics but allows selected skills, which makes Grid's form especially useful for reproducing techniques such as Revolve and his sword dances. The percentages also impose a clear ceiling: copying a vastly stronger target does not give Randy the original's full power. (Chapters 236, 243, 385, and 769)

Survival, substitution, and growth

Half Immortality centers Randy's life in a core, so ordinary destruction of her body is not final unless that core is destroyed. She can also exchange locations with a copied target, creating powerful rescue or interception opportunities, but reaching zero health leaves her unsummonable for twenty-four hours and her core remains a critical vulnerability. Shared experience with Grid raises her level, yet cultivation cannot safely begin while she relies on the exposed core; Grid therefore combines combat training with plans for a separate body that can support her next stage of growth. (Chapters 236, 385, 388, 1683, 1954, and 1982)

Relationships

  • Grid: Grid repairs Randy, rejects the idea that she is expendable, and treats her as a friend and family member. Randy copies his abilities in battle and later trains for a body that will let her protect him without remaining a liability. (Chapters 236, 769, 1853, 1954, 1962, and 1966–1967)
  • Noe: Noe is Randy's closest fellow pet and friend. They train, defend allies together, worry about one another, and rush toward danger as a pair when they believe their friends need protection. (Chapters 392, 404, 1145, 1613, 1966–1967, and 2013)
  • Pagma: Pagma repaired Randy before Grid did and protected Wendy's soul, leaving behind two acts of care that shape Randy's survival and eventual farewell to the person whose form she adopted. (Chapters 236 and 1853)
