Pelot

Pelot is a Talima blacksmith who personally remembers Pagma and initially argues with Grid over the legendary blacksmith's character. He nevertheless becomes Grid's guide and defender, helping him enter Pandemonium to liberate the empress's soul. (Chapters 1260–1262, 1264–1265, and 1267)

Pelot disputes Grid's understanding of Pagma because he remembers the proud, self-centered man who actually visited Talima. Furious, he throws a hammer as a threat, though the rudimentary throw has neither precision nor killing intent. The disagreement does not stop Pelot from guiding Grid to the royal palace and believing his stated goal of freeing the empress. When Antrino and the king challenge the visitor, Pelot steps between them and insists that Grid be treated with respect. (Chapters 1260–1262)

Pelot explains the dangers of Pandemonium: thousands of battle gears will tempt the entrant, who must ignore them and reach the presence at the corridor's end. He darkens when the dwarves assume Grid has died inside, but Grid returns after succeeding.
