Hurent
Hurent is an American ranker whose rare Aura Master class and tactical confidence make him one of the early National Competition's strongest players. A humiliating defeat by Grid, followed by forced labor under Piaro, redirects his pride into farming and exact control. He eventually joins the Overgeared Guild, gains Steel Farmer as a second class, and develops aura from shaped weapons into a versatile field of fixed-damage particles used to defend crops, allies, and the empire. (Chapters 174–177, 179–181, 329–330, 333, 335–337, 347–348, 379, 912–915, 1018–1019, 1021–1022, 1026–1027, 1032, 1457, 1530–1531, 1839, 1894, and 1940, 1946)
Biography
Reidan and the Overgeared Alliance
Hurent enters the National Competition as the eighth-ranked American player and the holder of the growth-type Aura Master class. He gives up a gold-medal route when it would require fighting both Grid and Yura, then manipulates the target event to secure silver instead. His aura's fixed damage, flexible shapes, and movement give him a technical advantage, and he reads Grid's limited competitive experience accurately. Grid nevertheless eliminates him in five seconds. Hurent refuses recruitment afterward because pride demands that he reach legendary status and defeat Grid on his own terms. (Chapters 174–177, 179–181)
Seeking to recover that honor, Hurent later accompanies Prince Ren's invasion of Reidan and even brings a broadcaster to record the victory. Piaro stops him. Aura Impact requires Hurent to imagine and complete a precise form within two seconds, and the disrupted image causes the technique to fail; his strongest projected dragon is also constrained by aura's current rating. Defeat leaves him a prisoner and farm laborer. Repeatedly forming fifty aura plows turns humiliation into training, and the precision of fieldwork eventually gives him genuine satisfaction instead of merely serving as a pause before revenge. (Chapters 329–330, 333, 335–337, 347–348, and 379)
Kingdom Building and the Great Demons
Hurent remains in Reidan long enough that outsiders mistake his flour-covered clothes and labor for slavery, but he identifies himself as a farmer and chooses to continue Piaro's instruction. The change is not a loss of ambition. Farming supplies the fine control and endurance his aura lacked, while Piaro offers a standard of mastery more useful than public rank. By remaining with the fields, Hurent begins contributing to the kingdom that once imprisoned him and converts an individual duelist's class into a discipline capable of sustained work. (Chapters 509, 550, and 781)
East Continent and Imperial Reckoning
Hurent protects Piaro and Reidan's fields when Haster attacks. The fight clarifies his class's origin: as a Sword Saint candidate, Hurent had trained basic swordsmanship while avoiding mana expenditure, causing a separate aura resource to emerge and mature into Aura Master. Super Sensitivity lets him predict actions within ten meters and raises agility, but consumes all mana within six seconds. Aura Swallowing combines enormous fixed damage with restraint, while Haster's anti-skill defenses force Hurent back onto the basic sword technique refined through farming. (Chapters 912–915)
Grid's respect after the defense breaks the old revenge narrative. Hurent accepts that the earlier loss and years in Reidan gave him a better path, formally joins Overgeared, and receives Aura Festival, which detonates many aura attacks whose fixed damage ignores defense and resistance. When a guild operation later orders retreat, he risks himself to save an explorer and obtains information by defeating a pursuer. Fighting beside others then changes his preference for solitary achievement into a commitment to guild companions. (Chapters 915–916, 1018–1019, 1021–1022, and 1026–1027, 1032)
Apostles, Dragons, and the Overgeared World
Hurent eventually holds Aura Master and Steel Farmer together. Growth Enhancement turns aura into rain that improves crops, and the fields in turn raise his statistics according to their size and quality. Aura forms plows and wind as readily as weapons, making agriculture part of combat progression rather than a separate occupation. By this stage he possesses numerous accumulated titles and searches for a rune that can further develop the combined path, functioning as one of Overgeared's concealed strategic assets. (Chapter 1457)
During the Human and Demon War, Hurent abandons his old obsession with constructing one perfect aura shape. He divides aura into particles around his body, producing both fixed-damage offense and a defensive cloak, and uses the broader control to stop demon armies and help raid great demons. Receiving a rune confirms the growth for which he had prepared. His confidence now rests on work shared with the guild and the Overgeared Church rather than on proving himself through an isolated rematch. (Chapters 1530–1531)
Baal, Asgard, and the Complete Ending
Hurent's late role combines humility with large-scale control. He works fields with hundreds of aura plows beside Piaro and corrects Damian's assumption that farming is beneath a famous combatant. He later accompanies yangbans east as a farmer and comrade rather than presenting himself as their superior. Both moments show that the occupation once imposed as punishment has become the identity through which he measures discipline, service, and pride. (Chapters 1839 and 1894)
Against Trauka and the cultivator invasion, Hurent is targeted repeatedly because aura threatens even heavily defended enemies. He returns after two deaths, holds Kubartos alone, and turns aura into a shield and cutting shards while allies retreat. The stand costs him another life but buys the necessary time. Soon afterward he fights Asura beside Kraugel, showing that the latest Aura Master is still active at the highest battlefield tier while relying on coordinated pressure rather than early-career showmanship. (Chapters 1940 and 1946)
Appearance and personality
Hurent is introduced as a large, mature-looking man with short gray hair, an appearance older than many competitors despite being in his thirties. His drowsy or belligerent expression reinforces an initially intimidating reputation. Years in Reidan add the visual language of farm work: a straw hat, plain laboring clothes, and flour or soil replace the polished image of an international ranker. Aura later surrounds him as innumerable particles rather than a single conspicuous weapon. (Chapters 174–177, 179–181, 379, 781, 1457, and 1530)
He begins proud, calculating, and intensely sensitive to public standing. The five-second defeat wounds that pride, but he responds by training rather than denying the result. Piaro's fields teach patience and pleasure in exact work; the Overgeared Guild teaches responsibility beyond personal victory. Hurent remains blunt and competitive, yet he can revise judgments, risk himself for a weaker teammate, and take pride in being called a farmer. His development is a redirection of ambition toward craft and comradeship, not a disappearance of confidence. (Chapters 180–181, 329–330, 333, 335–337, 347–348, 379, 915, 1021–1022, 1026–1027, 1032, 1457, 1839, and 1940)
Abilities, classes, and skills
Aura Master origin and resource. Hurent becomes Aura Master after pursuing the Sword Saint path through basic sword training while rarely spending mana. The unused energy develops into aura, a distinct resource whose class grows through control and repeated use. This origin leaves him with excellent fundamental swordsmanship even when skills are sealed. It does not make him a Sword Saint: the class's power comes from aura's unusual mechanics and Hurent's continued growth rather than inheriting another legendary swordsman's achievements. (Chapters 174–177, 179–181 and 912–915)
Fixed damage and shaping. Aura inflicts fixed damage that ignores ordinary defense and resistance. Hurent shapes it into swords, spears, whips, dragons, plows, shields, cutting fragments, movement paths, and eventually a particle cloak. Early complex attacks require an exact mental image completed within a short casting window, so disruption can collapse them, and their output remains limited by aura's rating. Later particle control reduces dependence on one rigid form and makes simultaneous offense and defense practical, but it still consumes Hurent's own finite aura and attention. (Chapters 174–177, 179–181, 335–337, 1018–1019, 1457, 1530–1531, and 1940)
Perception and burst skills. Super Sensitivity predicts actions within ten meters and raises agility by twenty percent, but drains all of Hurent's mana within six seconds, making it a short tactical window rather than a sustainable state. Aura Swallowing delivers a paired high-multiplier strike, restrains the target, and adds a finishing damage effect. Aura Festival creates many aura explosions whose fixed damage bypasses conventional mitigation. Skill sealing can neutralize these named techniques, which is why Hurent's farming-refined basic swordsmanship remains important. (Chapters 914–915 and 1018–1019)
Steel Farmer and Growth Enhancement. Training under Piaro turns aura control into agricultural technique and eventually grants Steel Farmer as a second class. Hurent can produce vast numbers of aura hand plows, move air over fields, and release aura rain through Growth Enhancement to improve crops. Cultivated fields reciprocally increase his statistics, with larger and better fields producing greater gains. This loop depends on land, crops, labor, and continued cultivation; it is not an instant combat enhancement available independently of the farming system that created it. (Chapters 347–348, 379, 781, 1457, and 1839)
Progression and latest state. Hurent's mature style integrates the two classes. Farming supplies scale, control, and statistics; aura supplies defense-ignoring pressure and adaptable equipment-like forms. A later rune and extensive war experience broaden this integration enough to oppose demon armies, dragons, cultivators, and Asura. The same encounters preserve clear limits: powerful enemies can target and kill him, maintaining protection during a retreat requires personal sacrifice, and returning to battle after death does not convert those deaths into feats of invulnerability. (Chapters 1457, 1530–1531, 1940, and 1946)
Power progression
| Stage / Realm / Ability | Chapter(s) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Aura Master | 174–181 | Unspent mana and fundamental sword training develop into the growth-type Aura Master class, distinct from the Sword Saint path he pursued. |
| Steel Farmer second class | 1457 | Agricultural achievement grants a second class whose fields and Growth Enhancement feed statistics back into his aura combat. |
Relationships
Grid is first the opponent who destroys Hurent's certainty and later the leader who recognizes his growth. Hurent initially rejects Grid's recruitment and frames progress as preparation for revenge. Grid's respect during the defense of Reidan lets him reinterpret the defeat as the event that led to Piaro and a stronger class path. Joining Overgeared gives him Aura Festival, companions, and wars large enough to use his abilities constructively, replacing the desired rematch with durable loyalty. (Chapters 174–177, 179–181, 912–916, 1018–1019, 1021–1022, 1026–1027, 1032, and 1457)
Piaro defeats, imprisons, and ultimately mentors Hurent. Forced farming initially attacks Hurent's ranker's pride, but repeated aura plowing teaches the exact visualization his combat techniques require. Hurent chooses to stay once the work becomes meaningful and later becomes a Steel Farmer in his own right. Their late collaboration across enormous fields makes the relationship reciprocal: Piaro remains the master, while Hurent's aura supplies a scale of cultivation that supports the empire. (Chapters 335–337, 347–348, 379, 781, 912–915, 1457, and 1839)
Haster tests whether Hurent's growth survives outside ideal conditions. Haster's defenses suppress named skills and force Hurent to rely on the basic swordsmanship he once treated as merely a route to a hidden class. Farming has strengthened those fundamentals enough to keep him effective. Protecting Piaro and the fields against Haster also changes the meaning of combat: Hurent is no longer seeking an audience for revenge, but defending the teacher and place that remade him. (Chapters 912–915)
Lauel represents the organized guild Hurent once avoided. Orders and strategy sometimes conflict with Hurent's instinct to act directly, as when he saves an explorer during a retreat, yet the result brings useful intelligence and deepens his sense of responsibility to companions. Hurent's eventual place in Overgeared depends on both tendencies: he accepts coordinated goals while retaining enough initiative to protect people whom a purely efficient plan might abandon. (Chapters 1018–1019, 1021–1022, 1026–1027, 1032)
Kraugel provides a late contrast to Hurent's original ambition. Hurent once pursued the Sword Saint candidate path and measured status through individual rankings; Kraugel becomes the actual Sword Saint. Their fight beside one another against Asura shows Hurent no longer needs that title to validate his development. Aura Master and Steel Farmer have become a distinct path capable of supporting the legendary swordsman at the final battlefield. (Chapters 914 and 1946)
