Reinheit von Djerba
Reinheit von Djerba is the Demon Marquis who rules Paradise, a fortress that offers security by concealing the human cost of its Perpetual Motion.
Biography
The welcome to Paradise
Reinheit presents himself as a survivor who reached the Dark Castle eight hundred years before the newcomers and built a refuge against its brutality. He opens the fortress to exhausted incarnations with warmth and ceremony, using their desire for safety to establish himself as a benevolent owner rather than another scenario tyrant. (Chapters 159–160)
A ruler confronted with his ending
Kim Dokja tells Reinheit that both he and Paradise will die. Reinheit initially laughs, then becomes unsettled because Kim's certainty threatens the identity and order he has maintained for centuries. Instead of exposing Paradise's foundation, he defends the system that grants him authority and keeps its residents dependent on the fortress. (Chapters 160–164)
The Perpetual Motion collapses
Reinheit survives the party's first assault and continues acting through the fortress. His defeat comes when Shin Yoosung redirects the monster sustaining Paradise: the Perpetual Motion loses its energy, its vast plant structure withers, and Reinheit realizes too late that the refuge and his own power share the same vulnerable foundation. Paradise's promised permanence ends with the machinery that made it possible. (Chapters 165–168)
The measure of a Demon Marquis
Later comparisons use Reinheit as a benchmark for other demon marquises with historical and legendary stories. This confirms that his local rule rested on substantial power, even though the story ultimately defines him by a system that could be dismantled rather than by invincibility. (Chapters 195 and 210)
Appearance and personality
Reinheit is first defined by the smile with which he watches newcomers react to Paradise and by the composed voice of a host welcoming them inside. Alone after Kim Dokja's warning, that practiced hospitality gives way to blank disbelief and irritation, exposing how completely his confidence depends on the fortress's permanence. (Chapters 159–161)
Abilities, attributes, and stories
Reinheit's personal Demon Marquis Status is substantial, but his most consequential power is the fortress system that sustains his rule and also creates its central weakness.
Demon Marquis Status
Reinheit possesses the Status and Stories of a Demon Marquis, enough to survive heavy structural destruction and communicate through Paradise after an apparent defeat. Later demon marquises are evaluated against his level. The corpus does not enumerate his personal combat techniques. (Chapters 165 and 210)
Paradise and Perpetual Motion
His true strength is institutional: the fortress called Paradise is sustained by the Perpetual Motion, a living plant-like system that supplies energy. When that supply is diverted, the branches wither and the fortress fails. The mechanism gives Reinheit durable territorial power but also makes him dependent on a single exploitable structure. (Chapters 159–168)
