Yeongwol

Yeongwol is the Imperial Palace's second-ranked Court Lady and fire-qi Guardian leader, whose confidence in palace authority and enhanced body leads her to fatally underestimate Chun Yeowun.

Biography

The Imperial Palace

Yeongwol's identity surprises Elder Khum because her court rank includes responsibility for Imperial Warehouse deposits and payments during civil war, not merely combat. As leader of the Guardians, she confronts East Spear warriors altered by Blood Reversion and tries to keep Khum alive for answers. Nearly ten Guardians die subduing the infiltrators, and learning that an unseen enemy manipulated both groups turns her anger toward anyone intruding on palace ground. (Chapters 353–355)

Yeowun attempts to explain the Blade God threat, but Yeongwol judges Wulin itself as something the Emperor should control. She raises her fire qi, exposes red scales beneath burning sleeves, and attacks despite Yeowun stopping a hand at her wounded forehead as a final warning. She assumes her numerical advantage and palace reinforcements will compensate for a roughly equal opponent. The appearance of Marakim and Lee Hameng reveals both assumptions to be wrong and identifies the intruder as the Demonic Lord. (Chapters 355–356)

Yeongwol tries to turn the confrontation into a guided visit to the Guardian Palace, where a Supreme Master and greater numbers could trap him. Yeowun instead severs both hands. Her body begins regeneration, but black force qi prevents the limbs from regrowing and blood continues to escape. With a sword at her throat, she alternates between threats, negotiation, and a claim that the Guardians hold Yeowun's subordinates. The last leverage makes him pause, yet her attempt to bait him into the palace fails. He crushes her head, ending both regeneration and command in Chapter 357. (Chapters 356–357)

Appearance and personality

Yeongwol is eventually revealed as an old, wrinkled woman beneath the status and transformed appearance associated with the court ladies. She is proud, protective of her subordinates, strategically opportunistic, and deeply invested in the belief that the Imperial Palace can overpower any outsider. Fear makes her flexible in tone but does not overcome that institutional arrogance.

Fire qi and scaled transformation

Yeongwol turns her eyes yellow, releases a red haze, and concentrates flame into her hands. As she increases internal energy, the haze darkens and her sleeves burn away to reveal red scales on her arms and legs, which function as armor. Her flaming hand can continue burning an opponent after contact, although Yeowun extinguishes it by gathering internal energy beneath the wound. His black sword cuts through the scales, establishing that the defense has a finite limit. (Chapters 354–357)

Painless body and regeneration

Like the other court ladies, Yeongwol does not feel pain and can regenerate minor wounds: a torn cheek closes as veins work beneath it. The trait does not remove fear, shock, blood loss, or mortality. Completely severed hands fail to return, especially after black force qi disrupts the recovery, and destruction of the head kills her. The ability is therefore rapid tissue repair and pain suppression, not invulnerability. (Chapter 357)

Profound Sound Blockage

Yeongwol can maintain Profound Sound Blockage across a small room, but doing so consumes exorbitant internal energy and exhausts her. She initially refuses to believe Yeowun has silenced the entire Guest House courtyard because even ten times her energy would not let her cover that area. The comparison defines both her competency and its range limitation. (Chapter 357)

Guardian command and intelligence

She commands court-lady fighters, controls sensitive wartime finance duties, and belongs to a Guardian service that gathers information on Wulin clans. This lets her recognize political leverage and redirect a dangerous visitor toward stronger palace forces. It does not give her complete intelligence: she does not initially know Yeowun's identity or understand the scale of his allies. (Chapters 353–357)
