Wevil

Wevil is a speed user coerced into serving the Parasites through Mantis's poison, who defects after Quinn frees the faction from that control. He voluntarily accepts Quinn's blood ritual and becomes a Strigoi capable of a tiger-beetle transformation, then serves as a communications leader in the Cursed faction. On Blade Island, Wevil spends his remaining strength saving Linda and is killed by the Masked attackers surrounding them. (Chapters 678–704, 815–828, 1022–1065, 1271–1312)

Biography

Escaping the Parasites

Wevil enters as the small, green-haired Parasites member used to cheat opponents at Block Block. He has memorised a fixed attack sequence well enough to reproduce robotic-perfect movements, but his fear when Quinn exposes the method suggests the performance is enforced rather than playful fraud. On the subsequent beast hunt, Wevil is impressed by Quinn's strength and willingness to protect weaker fighters. He chooses to remain with Quinn's group after other Parasites withdraw, believing the Cursed faction is going somewhere Mantis never could. (Chapters 678–684)

The choice is shaped by coercion that the outsiders cannot yet see. Mantis has infected his own faction with a soul-weapon poison and forces them to return for repeated relief; Wevil's recurring stomach pain and fear of punishment come from that dependence. During the factions' duel, Wevil uses speed to protect Hana even though he knows Quinn can catch him. After Mantis dies, Wevil explains the poison and breaks down because the apparent freedom may only leave every Parasite member to die. Sil extracts it, turning liberation from an abstract promise into a physical fact. (Chapters 684–704)

Wevil keeps his promise to follow Quinn. He offers the remaining Parasites a choice rather than reproducing Mantis's control, helps communicate the change to Daisy, and integrates with the Cursed faction alongside Hana. His loyalty is therefore not created by Quinn's later blood bond: it begins as a conscious response to being protected and released from torture. (Chapters 699–704 and 768–815)

A Strigoi leader of the Cursed faction

On the Cursed ship, Wevil becomes a popular instructor and feels he has found a home. Quinn considers him for the final blood ritual because super speed overlaps with vampire speed, but asks him not to accept merely from debt. Wevil agrees anyway for his own stated reasons: the Cursed faction gave him freedom, and a stronger body would let him protect it. The ritual turns him into a Strigoi rather than the regular vampire Quinn expected. (Chapters 783–816)

The transformation removes Wevil's human super-speed ability, but grants a subclass whose animal forms can recover a similar specialisation. Quinn teaches him shadow with the other turned faction members, and Wevil develops a tiger-beetle transformation focused on speed. He rises into the Cursed faction's leadership group and works with Linda on communications between absorbed factions, while also training fighters such as Swin in the calm mental state he uses during fast exchanges. Wevil participates in operations ranging from the Caladi defence to the demon-tier tree crisis. He combines daggers, subclass speed, and evasive movement to disable opponents without simply trading force, cutting the legs of Marked attackers and moving through crowded shelters. He remains more comfortable against enemies he can outmanoeuvre than against demon-tier pressure, but continues acting even when openly frightened. (Chapters 1022–1065 and 1211–1216)

Linda and the fighting on Blade Island

Working beside Linda turns an old faction grievance into intimacy. Linda originally approaches Wevil because she blames the Parasites for her brother Blip's death, then learns that Wevil was himself trapped under Mantis. The pair become communications partners and habitual battlefield companions; by Blade Island, Linda has fallen in love with him even though she has not yet said so. (Chapters 678–704, 1028–1029, 1211–1216, and 1287–1288)

On Blade Island, Wevil and Linda are isolated against a growing number of Masked vampires. His tiger-beetle form runs out of energy, and both fighters need a source their enemies deny them: Wevil must touch a human to draw blood power, while Linda must consume flesh. Linda shields him with her enlarged body and confesses her feelings when she can no longer move. Wevil refuses to accept her sacrifice, forces a partial transformation through exhaustion, and lifts her clear so that at least she may survive. (Chapters 1271–1288)

Wevil then charges the one human he can sense among the Masked, hoping contact will restore enough energy to continue. A barrier stops him before he can touch the target, and the attackers pierce his stomach, chest, and thigh until his body shows no life. Raten and the others recover the corpse for burial, while Quinn's link and Linda's grief confirm that this is Wevil's death rather than a temporary subclass collapse. His final independent choice fulfils the protective reason he gave for becoming a Strigoi, but only by spending his life. (Chapters 1287–1312)

A manifestation among Quinn's dead

Much later, Wevil appears with Linda, Dennis, and other deceased Cursed allies in the realm shaped around Quinn's dead. Arthur's shadow helps the group survive repeated attacks. This late presence is a postmortem manifestation tied to Quinn, not evidence that Wevil's physical body revived after Blade Island. (Chapters 2476–2481)

Appearance and personality

Wevil is a small adult man with short green hair who fights with two daggers. His tiger-beetle transformation changes some or all of his limbs into a powerful insect-like form, with partial transformation used when he wants speed without maintaining the full body. He is observant, smooth-moving, and initially nervous because punishment follows any failure under Mantis. Once free, he becomes playful, competitive, and socially useful, but remains candid about fear. His defining loyalties are chosen rather than imposed: he protects Hana against Quinn, accepts transformation to defend his new faction, and refuses to let Linda die over him. (Chapters 678–704, 815–816, 1028–1065, and 1271–1288)

Powers and abilities

Human super speed and soul weapon

Before becoming a Strigoi, Wevil has a super-speed ability. It lets him move around slower defenders, disengage before they can grab him, and attack with paired daggers. His enhanced soul weapon temporarily doubles that speed, allowing sharper changes of direction and faster approaches. The enhancement is finite and does not make him untouchable: Fex's strings catch his legs, Quinn and Fex can track him, and sustained movement consumes stamina. (Chapters 678–690 and 697)

The blood ritual makes his human ability incompatible with his new body, so the later tiger-beetle speed is a Strigoi transformation rather than continued use of the same power. The corpus does not clearly show whether Wevil retains or reactivates the old enhancement soul weapon after turning; its latest confirmed use belongs to his human period. (Chapters 697 and 815–816)

Strigoi physiology and blood absorption

Quinn's ritual creates a Strigoi, a vampire subclass that has not yet selected its eventual Mort or Vu evolutionary path. Strigoi are unaffected by sunlight and remain mortal. They share speed with vampires but only some other physical traits, and they power an animal-like transformation by consuming human blood through touch. Wevil cannot substitute stored blood by drinking it; a drop tastes repulsive, making the contact condition a meaningful restriction. (Chapters 815–816)

Touch drains energy from a human into Wevil and fuels his transformation. On Blade Island he can sense the human among Masked vampires and tries to reach him as the only available source, but an ability barrier prevents contact. Without fresh energy the animal form collapses, his legs weaken, and he loses the speed needed to keep ahead of the attackers. The failed attempt is the clearest demonstration of the subclass's fatal logistical limit. (Chapters 1287–1288)

Tiger-beetle transformation

Wevil's animal form is a tiger beetle specialised for speed. He can transform the whole body or only the legs and arms, using partial changes to move rapidly, spring upward, and add insect strength to a lift. He commonly transforms only his legs when ordinary enemies cannot keep pace, conserving more power than a full change. (Chapters 1060, 1272, and 1287)

The form consumes stored energy and slows as Wevil tires. It does not provide unlimited durability or regeneration: Masked vampires only slightly slower than him eventually close the distance, and accumulated wounds remain lethal. His final partial transformation gives enough strength to move Linda but immediately reverts, leaving him unable to resist the next group. Wevil dies before choosing or demonstrating either of the Strigoi's possible later evolutionary paths. (Chapters 1287–1288)

Shadow power

After his transformation, Quinn teaches Wevil the shadow ability because his old human power is no longer usable. Later testimony explicitly includes Wevil among the Cursed members able to use shadow. The corpus does not provide a comparably detailed signature technique, reserve measurement, or mastery progression for him, so his exact applications and MC limit remain uncertain. Like the other users, he relies on finite MC cells, and he dies with his Strigoi transformation—not shadow—as the principal power shown in his final fight. (Chapters 816–828, 1272–1288, and 1312)

Daggers, reflex training, and leadership

Wevil uses paired daggers to exploit speed, targeting legs, thighs, and the backs of joints rather than contesting stronger bodies head-on. His months memorising Block Block patterns give him refined reflex timing even though the original competition is rigged, and he later teaches the mental discipline behind his movements to other fighters. As a Cursed leader he also handles faction communications and coordination with Linda. These skills broaden his value beyond raw speed but cannot overcome stronger enemies once his energy supply is cut off. (Chapters 678–690, 995, 1028–1060, and 1287–1288)

Relationships

• Quinn: Quinn exposes Wevil's cheating but gives him an escape from Mantis's retaliation, later frees him from poison, and accepts him into the Cursed faction. Wevil chooses Quinn's blood ritual and dies trying to protect the faction Quinn gave him. (Chapters 678–704, 815–816, and 1287–1307)
• Linda: Linda initially associates Wevil with the faction responsible for Blip's death. Shared leadership and repeated fighting reveal the coercion under which he lived; her hostility develops into love, while Wevil becomes consistently protective of her. He spends his last strength moving her out of the attackers' reach. (Chapters 678–704, 1028–1029, 1211–1216, and 1287–1312)
• Sil: Sil removes Mantis's poison from Wevil, making his defection survivable rather than symbolic. That intervention gives Wevil the free choice on which his later Cursed loyalty rests. (Chapters 699–704)
• Fex: Fex first counters Wevil's speed with strings during the faction duel. They later become allies, and Fex recovers and protects Wevil's corpse so Linda and the Cursed faction can say goodbye. (Chapters 689–690 and 1292–1297)
• Hana: Hana is Wevil's closest companion in the Parasites and stays on the dangerous hunt because she will not leave him. Wevil later challenges Quinn to protect her even while knowing he cannot win. (Chapters 680–704)
• Mantis: Mantis uses poison and periodic antidotes to control Wevil and the other Parasites. Wevil's fear of him explains the early cheating and obedience; Mantis's death and Sil's cure end that coercive relationship. (Chapters 678–704)
