Momo

Momo is a male second-year academy student who enforces Duke's abusive student hierarchy through two-second precognition and a whip-like soul weapon. His staged punishment of Vorden exposes both the reach of the second years and the limits of seeing an attack that is too fast or broad to evade. The female guard called Momo in Chapters 1671–1672 is a separate person. (Chapters 27–47 and 293)

Biography

Enforcing the second-year hierarchy

Momo warns first years not to disrupt the academy's established system and later leads an ambush against Vorden, who has been isolating and defeating his subordinates. He gathers roughly a hundred students in the assembly hall, displays a beaten Vorden as an example, and uses the threat of group retaliation to force Quinn into harming another student. The spectacle is designed to restore obedience rather than settle a private fight. (Chapters 27–45)

Vorden's alternate controller Raten combines water and telekinesis to overwhelm the narrow advantage provided by Momo's foresight. Momo responds with his soul weapon and gains the upper hand, but Sergeant Fay interrupts the fight; Momo immediately yields because her super speed is a known counter and Duke's protection depends on avoiding a direct clash with senior staff. Afterward he keeps a lower profile and privately wonders whether he could have matched Vorden's willingness to cut off his own hand. He is last seen observing the tournament, with no later outcome supplied. (Chapters 46–47 and 293)

Appearance and personality

Momo is a male second-year student; the corpus does not give a stable description of his hair, eyes, or clothing. He is smug, coercive, and socially calculating, using numbers and school rules to corner targets. His later reflection shows that Vorden's extremity genuinely frightens him, and he understands when institutional protection or foresight will not save him. (Chapters 27–49 and 293)

Powers and abilities

Two-second precognition

Momo's eye-activated ability shows outlines of what people or objects will do roughly two seconds into the future. Years of physical and reaction training let him act on those images, evade attacks from behind, and coordinate whip strikes. It does not improve his body automatically or show a single fixed future: attacks covering multiple options can force him to choose which hit to take, and Fay's speed exceeds his ability to react even with warning. Whips and soul weapon

Momo ordinarily fights with a whip. His soul weapon manifests as a second, living-looking whip that moves at extreme speed, resists telekinetic slowing, lengthens through a water barrier, and follows a rolling target. It is powerful enough to drag Raten and repeatedly tear his back, but it disappears when Momo dismisses it and has no demonstrated use after the academy confrontation. The corpus does not name the weapon or explain a separate cost beyond its status as a level-six user's soul weapon. (Chapters 45–47 and 89)

Relationships

• Vorden: Momo targets Vorden for attacking second years and publicly tortures him to reassert the hierarchy. Their fight forces Momo to reveal his soul weapon and leaves him uncertain whether he could survive Vorden's ruthlessness in a rematch. (Chapters 35–47 and 293)
• Quinn: Momo uses another student as leverage because Quinn cannot safely strike with lethal force. The encounter becomes an early measure of the institutional opponents Quinn still cannot simply overpower. (Chapters 27 and 41–49)
