James

James is Pure's Agent 15, an instructor and interrogator assigned to oversee Erin. His undercover return to Latrina ends when he tortures a local lead and is killed by Leo during the resulting confrontation. (Chapters 281–366)

Biography

Processing and training Erin

James escorts the abducted Erin into Pure's base and restrains her for an initiation involving attached contacts and electrical pain. He later supervises agent sparring with his large rusty sword visible on his back and enters Erin in the agent exam. The instructors read her determination as ambition within Pure, while James becomes the higher-ranked agent responsible for accompanying her back to Latrina. (Chapters 281–282 and 358–363)

Undercover mission and death

On Latrina, James follows Erin at a distance and carries interrogation equipment in a side bag. He tortures Taz longer than an ordinary captive because he considers him the strongest available lead but intends to keep him alive for information. Leo intervenes, striking James through the dojo wall; James's king-tier armour prevents immediate injury and he answers with Qi-powered sword attacks rather than identify their shared training source. (Chapters 364–366)

James's large Qi slash initially exceeds Leo's ordinary ranged attacks, but Leo combines Qi with a blood attack that tears through James's armour and cuts him diagonally in half. Erin and Leo destroy the remains to prevent Pure from finding the body. Erin expects James's missed reports may prompt an investigation, and she confirms that higher-numbered agents conceal their full strength. (Chapters 365–366)

The “James” named in Chapter 1780 is a textual error in a passage continuing Jake's question and point of view; it does not place Agent 15 in the later era. (Chapter 1780)

Appearance and personality

James carries a large rusty sword whose guard is as wide as his shoulders. The corpus provides no stable description of his face, hair, or ordinary clothing. He is quiet, severe, and methodical: he supervises training, follows Erin without drawing attention, and prolongs torture to preserve a source rather than from uncontrolled violence. Powers and abilities

Pure Qi swordsmanship

As an agent ranked between six and twenty, James received Pure's secret Qi training. He channels energy from his abdomen through his sword and releases broad blue-aura slashes. The large weapon emphasises power: one Qi attack destroys Leo's smaller ordinary slashes, although its size is less suited to speed and sharpness. James can also use the blade and his full strength to deflect repeated ranged attacks. (Chapter 365)

James wears king-tier armour that protects him from being driven through a wall and lets him accept some hits while closing distance. Leo's stronger, blood-infused Qi slash dents and then completely penetrates that defence, killing him before he can demonstrate any further technique. Erin states that James never showed trainees his full power, so the corpus does not establish whether he had an additional innate ability. (Chapters 365–366)

Relationships

• Erin: James processes, trains, and supervises Erin for Pure, then accompanies her undercover. Erin respects his rank but explicitly rejects the idea that he was her friend. (Chapters 281–282 and 358–366)
