Green Horn

Green Horn is a Dalki commander whose caution distinguishes him from more impulsive leaders but cannot overcome Owen's developing lightning techniques. He retreats from their first battle, survives punishment and forced recovery, then returns as a five-spike Dalki with long-range energy attacks before Owen kills him in their rematch. (Chapters 1074–1105 and 1253–1311)

Biography

Retreat from the first Graylash battle

Green Horn is sent against Owen despite One Horn's concern that a lightning user may be a poor match for him. As a four-spike commander, he recognises that Owen's first soul-weapon form requires concentration and attempts to bypass him and attack the Graylash troops instead. Owen adapts by spreading lightning clouds across the field, using their strikes to paralyse Green Horn while attacking at close range. When the exchange leaves him badly hurt and Owen nearly exhausted, Green Horn chooses survival over the Dalki expectation of relentless aggression: he sprouts wings and retreats rather than gamble on one more attack. He returns to his own forces barely alive. (Chapters 1074, 1080, 1088, and 1105)

Five-spike return and death

Green Horn's failure brings further violence from his own side. Graham later finds him severely wounded by Dalki attacks in a healing container and warns him not to fail a third time. By his return to the Graylash front, Green Horn has reached five spikes and believes his evolved scales make him effectively resistant to ordinary lightning. He commands several hundred Dalki but initially advances alone, destroys fortified bunkers, and discovers that he can project orange force from his punches, turning his close-range power into an explosive ranged threat. His excitement over that growth feeds an ambition to become a greater leader. (Chapters 1253 and 1308)

Owen and Grim exploit the distinction between resisting damage and resisting lightning's paralysing effect. Green Horn can survive massed lightning and produces smaller blasts without a full wind-up, but Owen's soul weapon repeatedly stops his movements while Grim strikes him. Owen then pins him with condensed lightning bolts and detonates the entire formation, leaving only scorched ground. The Dalki leadership recognises his death as the loss of a rapidly growing commander. (Chapters 1309–1311)

The separate New Gen Green Horn

Much later, Graham fields a newborn five-spike Dalki engineered to resemble Green Horn and share some of his traits. The narrative explicitly states that the original Green Horn is already dead and that this New Gen fighter is not an exact clone. The replacement fires similar energy blasts and is killed by Quinn, but those actions and that death belong to the New Gen individual, not to the commander covered by this article. (Chapters 1554–1557)

Appearance and personality

The original Green Horn has greener skin than the black-scaled Dalki around him and initially bears four spikes. He later returns with five spikes and evolved scales. He is proud and cruel toward human defenders, but more observant than a typical Dalki: he studies the restrictions of Owen's soul weapon, remembers the danger lightning posed to One Horn, and retreats when his first battle turns against him. His later growth makes him more confident and ambitious, without erasing that tactical awareness. (Chapters 1080, 1088, 1308–1309)

Powers and abilities

Dalki growth, durability, and physical power

As a Dalki, Green Horn becomes stronger as he is injured and later progresses from four to five spikes. At four spikes he endures repeated lightning-enhanced blows before retreating; at five, massed attacks from the Graylash defenders scarcely damage him, and a single descending punch demolishes a bunker. His evolved scales reduce the damaging effect of lightning but do not prevent it from interrupting his muscles, allowing Owen and Grim to hold him in place. Sufficiently concentrated lightning ultimately destroys him. (Chapters 1088 and 1308–1309)

Orange energy projection

After reaching five spikes, Green Horn discovers that a forceful punching motion can launch orange energy at range. A fully wound-up blast reproduces enough of his physical force to explode a bunker, while shorter punches release smaller, faster projectiles that can interrupt an opponent. The technique removes the safety of distance that the Graylash defenders previously relied on, but its blasts can be knocked away or redirected by sufficiently powerful lightning, and using them does not protect Green Horn from paralysis. (Chapters 1308–1309)

Flight and command

Green Horn can extend wings and fly, which lets him escape the first Owen battle after leaving the soul weapon's range. He also commands organised Dalki troops and can hold them back or order a mass advance. His first retreat preserves his life, but his five-spike rematch gives him no opening to use flight before Owen pins him. (Chapters 1088 and 1308–1309)

Relationships

  • Owen: Owen is Green Horn's principal human opponent. Green Horn escapes their first encounter after identifying limits in Owen's technique, but Owen develops faster and kills him in the rematch. (Chapters 1080, 1088, and 1308–1309)
  • Graham: Graham treats Green Horn as a useful but repeatedly failing subordinate, places him in the healing machine after Dalki-inflicted injuries, and threatens further punishment if he fails again. (Chapter 1253)
  • Unnamed vampire: Graham recalls that a vampire allied with the Dalki had previously defeated Green Horn and Dred. Chapter 1079 does not identify that vampire by name or show the earlier encounter, so neither the fighter's identity nor the circumstances are established here. (Chapter 1079)
