Fei
Fei, identified in a military report as Fei Lan, is a first-year student who supports Brandon Richardson's attempt to punish Quinn for winning a weapons-class match. He helps stage an illegal ability-assisted attack, then becomes one of Quinn's first masked feeding victims. (Chapters 30–41)
Biography
Supporting Brandon's accusation
Fei objects when Quinn defeats Brandon and his weapon breaks, accusing Quinn of cheating even after Leo confirms that no ability was used. He joins Brandon and Loop in treating the low-level student's victory as illegitimate, reinforcing the academy hierarchy they expect to favour stronger ability users. (Chapters 30 and 32)
Brandon then recruits Fei into a coordinated sparring trap. Fei challenges Quinn with two short swords while Brandon distracts Layla, and at the signal Brandon uses wind to knock Quinn into Fei's blades. Fei steps back and presents the stabbing as an accident, but he knew the plan and is expelled from the weapons class with Brandon. (Chapters 32–33)
Conflict with Brandon and Quinn's revenge
Fei blames Brandon for dragging him into the punishment and mocks his defeat, prompting the stronger student to pin him to a wall and remind him of their level difference. Fei walks away questioning whether Brandon considers him a friend or only a controllable subordinate. That separation leaves him alone and gives Quinn an opportunity for revenge. (Chapter 33)
On the roof, Quinn's masked Blood Swipe incapacitates Fei before he can use his ability. Quinn drinks his blood and fights Loop when the latter arrives, while Fei remains unconscious. Hayley later heals Fei's claw wounds and finds him sleeping calmly in the hospital. (Chapters 34–36)
Hospitalisation and uncertain future
Fei remains banned from the weapons class and is absent from its later lesson. A sergeant identifies him as Fei Lan and tells Quinn that Fei was admitted to hospital, connecting the attack to the investigation into Brandon's death. No later chapter shows Fei discharged, punished further, reconciled with Loop, or aware that Quinn was his attacker. (Chapters 39 and 41)
The line attributed to “Fei” in Chapter 38 occurs inside a continuous private conversation between Loop and Quinn and is contradicted by Loop speaking immediately before and after it. It is a source attribution error, not a separate appearance or evidence that Fei confronted Quinn. (Chapters 37–38)
Appearance and personality
The corpus gives no secure description of Fei's hair, eyes, height, build, uniform details, or distinguishing features. He is a first-year military academy student and carries two short swords during weapons class. (Chapters 30 and 32)
Fei is status-conscious, impressionable, and willing to participate in bullying, but not completely submissive. He supports Brandon while expecting group protection, then resents being treated as a lower-level lackey once their plan fails. His later outlook cannot be assessed because he is unconscious or only mentioned after the rooftop attack. (Chapters 30–36)
Powers and abilities
Unnamed level 2.5 ability
Fei's wristwatch rating is 2.5, establishing that he has an ability, but the corpus never names, depicts, or explains it. Quinn strikes too quickly for Fei to activate it on the roof, and weapons-class rules prevent him from using it during the earlier spar. No mechanism, range, cost, counter, evolution, or latest level is therefore available. (Chapters 30, 32, and 34)
Dual-sword combat
Fei has some experience with two short swords: his movements flow naturally from one attack to the next, and he coordinates his charge with Brandon's wind blast. Against Quinn after the latter's lesson with Leo, however, his strikes appear slow and predictable. His most damaging hit depends on Brandon knocking Quinn off balance rather than Fei overcoming him directly. (Chapters 32–33)
Fei shows no defence against Quinn's later surprise attack and is knocked unconscious by one Blood Swipe. The swords are broken during the class incident, and the corpus does not identify their tier, material, active skill, ownership after the fight, or any later replacement. (Chapters 33–34)
Relationships
- Quinn: Fei accuses Quinn of cheating, helps stab him, and is later ambushed and fed on by Quinn. (Chapters 30–36)
- Brandon Richardson: Fei supports Brandon's retaliation but rejects being treated as a weaker subordinate after their expulsion. (Chapters 30–33)
- Loop: Loop is Fei's friend and tries to rescue him from the masked Quinn, then keeps the attack secret out of fear. (Chapters 35–38)
- Leo: Fei challenges Leo's ruling about Brandon's weapon and is later caught violating the no-ability rule through his coordinated attack. (Chapters 30–33)
Items
No manifest-configured inventory item is assigned to Fei. His two short swords are unnamed classroom weapons and are broken during the attack on Quinn.
