Ely
Ely is the co-founder and vice leader of the Orbus faction, serving beside his longtime friend Ko. He helps oppose the demon-tier tree controlling their shelter and later coordinates the faction's response to simultaneous Dalki attacks on the Graylash planets. (Chapters 1062–1209)
Biography
Fighting for the Orbus shelter
Ely watches the shelter he and Ko built fall under the control of the Marked and promises to follow Ko back into danger. He notices that their secret tunnel is compromised and tries to stop Ko from approaching his controlled wife and daughter. When Ko cannot attack them, Ely uses crossbow shots to disable their arms and legs without killing them, then patches the injuries so they may survive if destroying the tree releases them. The choice preserves Ko's family while forcing Ko to continue the mission. (Chapters 1062–1063)
Inside the tunnels, Ely tackles a Marked attacker away from Ko and is bitten. He deliberately holds the attackers back as the transformation begins, telling Ko to reach the tree; his unusually delayed conversion gives him enough time to use the new Marked strength against them. Ely later appears alive and mentally himself at a strategy meeting, establishing that he survives the incident, although the corpus does not explain his recovery in detail. (Chapters 1065 and 1072)
Defending the Graylash planets
Ely objects when Quinn plans to board a Dalki fleet alone because even a ship without a four-spike commander may hold many enemies. During the later simultaneous invasion, he explains that every Graylash planet is under attack and that reinforcements will be limited. With no help arriving at the Orbus shelter, he asks what remains possible and supports the decision to hold the position as long as they can. He is alive in Chapter 1209; no later outcome is given. (Chapters 1072, 1192, and 1209)
Appearance and personality
Ely is an adult man; the corpus gives no stable description of his hair, eyes, build, or clothing. He is loyal to Ko but willing to oppose his impulses when civilians or Ko's family would otherwise die. His decisions are pragmatic and protective, and his objections to Quinn's solo mission reflect concern about the enemy's numbers rather than defiance. (Chapters 1062–1072)
Powers and abilities
Crossbow combat and resistance
Ely uses a crossbow with beast arrows accurately enough to disable the limbs of two moving Marked without killing them. He also patches their wounds, though the corpus does not identify a healing ability or explain whether this is ordinary field treatment. In close quarters, he can tackle a Marked and retain control briefly after being bitten; the source explicitly calls the delay unusual but does not name its cause. (Chapters 1062–1065)
The corpus does not identify Ely's innate ability, ability level, Qi, or later combat progression. His return after the demon-tier incident establishes survival but not a permanent Marked power or transformation, so none is attributed to him. (Chapters 1065–1209)
Relationships
- Ko: Ely co-founded Orbus with Ko, serves as his vice leader, protects Ko's family, and repeatedly follows him into danger while checking his reckless choices. (Chapters 1062–1065 and 1192–1209)
- Quinn: Ely worries that Quinn's solo Dalki mission is too dangerous, despite recognising his strength and later depending on Cursed-faction assistance. (Chapters 1062, 1072, and 1192)
