Deal

Deal is a frightened Temple child who becomes the first of his cohort to reject the Blade family's lethal Event openly. Encouraged by Vorden's example, he argues that the children should fight their teachers rather than kill one another. His appeal helps unite the group, which joins Peter's revolt and escapes the island. (Chapters 628 and 634–668)

Biography

Struggling under Temple training

Deal is one of roughly thirty children raised without parents at the Temple. During a copied water-ability lesson, he struggles even to form water and cries often enough for Vorden to compare his distress with Sil's, though Deal does not possess Sil's exceptional capacity. The institution gives him little reason for confidence: its training is designed to culminate in an Event where only one child may survive. (Chapter 628)

Refusing the Event

When the Event begins, Deal is frightened but acts before the other children. He copies a green energy ability from a Chained person, asks everyone not to attack, and argues that they should unite against the adults. Vorden openly supports the appeal and helps turn it into an escape attempt. After Vorden is captured again, Deal continues speaking to the other children and builds support for fighting back on the next Event day rather than accepting mutual death. (Chapters 634–635 and 658)

Peter learns of Deal's plan while infiltrating the Temple and adopts Vorden's appearance to encourage it. Even after Deal discovers the deception, he joins the other children in attacking the teachers because Peter's resistance provides their best chance to survive. Deal then follows the escape group to the beach and remains with them through the dangerous departure, comforting the body he believes is Vorden after Sil ends the giant water threat. Chapter 668 leaves Deal alive aboard the ship; his later fate is not established. (Chapters 658–668)

False-positive chapter hits

The word “deal” occurs frequently as an ordinary noun or command, including Chapter 158 and many late chapters. Those lines do not name this child. The source-grounded character first appears in Chapter 628 and is last personally identified in Chapter 668; later instructions to “deal with” an enemy cannot extend his biography. Appearance and personality

The corpus identifies Deal as a young Temple student but gives no stable details of his hair, eyes, build, or clothing. He is anxious, tearful, and initially weak in ability practice. Those traits coexist with moral courage: when the Event becomes real, he is the first child to ask the group not to hurt one another, and he continues organising after Vorden disappears. His need for a trusted adult remains visible when he embraces Peter's disguise and later tries to comfort Sil. (Chapters 628, 634–635, and 658–668)

Ability copying

Like the other Temple children, Deal can copy an ability from a Chained user through touch. He struggles with copied water manipulation during training, then produces green energy from his palm after touching the Event's Chained person. The energy can be projected as a destructive beam when Raten uses the same copied power, but Deal himself lowers it once Vorden supports him and does not demonstrate equivalent control or output. The corpus does not establish how many abilities Deal can retain simultaneously. (Chapters 628 and 634–635)

Collective resistance

Deal's decisive contribution is organisational rather than supernatural. He articulates the alternative that the children can fight for freedom together, talks to the cohort after Vorden's capture, and helps commit them to Peter's uprising. The plan succeeds because many children combine copied abilities while teachers hesitate, not because Deal individually defeats the Temple leadership. (Chapters 634–635 and 658–661)
