Brandon
Brandon Richardson is a first-year military-academy student whose defeat by Quinn leads him to organise a retaliatory attack during weapons class. He is expelled from that class and dies later the same night under circumstances the supplied corpus never resolves. (Chapters 30–41)
Biography
Defeat, retaliation, and unexplained death
Brandon enters beast-weapons class as a power-level-three student and expects his spear's reach to control the match. Quinn breaks the weapon and defeats him without abilities, but Brandon insists that Quinn cheated rather than accept the difference in physical strength. He then arranges for Fei to engage Quinn while he faces Layla, using a prohibited wind blast from behind so Fei's swords strike Quinn. Brandon smiles when the plan works and later reminds Fei that he agreed to it, revealing that the attack was deliberate rather than an accident. The instructor expels both conspirators from the class. (Chapters 30–33)
Brandon subsequently enters his dorm room after arguing with Fei and is not shown alive again. A medical report records his death at 9:30 p.m., while Loop and Fei assume Quinn retaliated against him. Quinn truthfully denies killing Brandon and privately wonders who did. The academy finds no lead, and later chapters only record the death and its effect on security. Chapter 35 briefly displays “Brandon Richardson” in a system inspection of Loop, but the body, bone ability, and surrounding scene belong to Loop; the mismatched label cannot establish Brandon's presence or cause of death. (Chapters 33 and 35–49, 157, and 181)
Appearance and personality
The corpus does not establish Brandon's hair, eyes, build, or clothing beyond his academy context. He is proud, status-conscious, and quick to interpret an unexpected loss as cheating. He plans retaliation, uses Fei as the direct attacker, and threatens Fei with their power-level difference when challenged, showing a controlling approach even toward his own friends. (Chapters 30 and 32–33)
Powers and abilities
Elemental wind ability
Quinn's inspection identifies Brandon's ability as “Elemental,” and Brandon demonstrates a wind blast during a weapons-class match. He fires it from outside his assigned duel and knocks Quinn off balance into Fei's blades. That use establishes a ranged pushing effect, but the corpus gives no broader catalogue of elements, maximum force, range, cost, or later development. Abilities are forbidden in the initial spear match, so Brandon's power-level-three rating is not tested directly against Quinn there. (Chapters 30 and 32)
Spear combat
Brandon uses a large spear with a long reach and a single curved blade. His opening thrust is fast enough to impress the watching students, but Quinn can evade it, seize the shaft, break the weapon, and close distance before Brandon recovers. The defeat shows basic weapon competence constrained by dependence on reach and by weaker physical reactions when abilities are unavailable. (Chapter 30)
Relationships
- Quinn: Brandon treats Quinn's fair weapons-class victory as humiliation and organises a prohibited two-person attack in response. Quinn later becomes the principal suspect in Brandon's death but truthfully denies killing him. (Chapters 30–41)
- Layla: Brandon requests a duel with Layla as cover for his plan, spending the match evading her arrows until the moment he can strike Quinn from behind. (Chapter 32)
- Fei: Fei participates in Brandon's plan but resents being punished for it. Brandon answers that complaint by invoking his higher level and physically threatening him, after which Fei walks away. (Chapters 32–33)
- Loop: Loop is another friend in Brandon's group and later fears that Quinn will do to him what happened to Brandon. A Chapter 35 inspection accidentally uses Brandon's name for Loop, but their identities and abilities remain separate. (Chapters 30 and 35–38)
