Tantai Tao
Tantai Tao is an outstanding formation trainee whose death exposes institutional factionalism, while a changed life later permits Li Fan to meet him alive. He is not Tantai Can, whose shared surname only prompts Li Fan to speculate about clan ties. (Chapters 298, 332, 458, 728–729)
Biography
Talent is Worthless After Death
Tantai Tao earns top assessment results and perfect Soul Contract identification during Tianxuan Spirit-Locking Formation training, making his supposed accidental death with more than a dozen companions especially shocking. The incident is later explained as political use of promising trainees in competition for Garrison Courtyard commands. In another of Li Fan's lives that killing never occurs: Tantai survives, meets Xu Bai beside Shuo Feng, and discusses the Endstone Plate with the confidence of an established formation genius. His survival is therefore branch-specific, and the narrative never identifies him as Tantai Can. (Chapters 298–299, 323–332, 458, 728–729)
Appearance and personality
The living Tantai Tao is a heroic-looking man whose appearance is striking even though it does not rival Xu Bai's. He greets Xu Bai warmly and participates readily in technical conversation, but a fleeting disdain for the envoy's account of hardship suggests a proud streak consistent with his elite talent. (Chapters 728–729)
Abilities and cultivation
The source establishes exceptional formation aptitude, two top training evaluations, and a one-hundred-percent success rate when identifying Soul Contracts. It does not supply a named personal combat art or complete formal realm for Tantai Tao in this minor arc. His value lies in technical perception and formation potential rather than a documented breakthrough ladder. (Chapters 298–299)
Relationships
Ji Hongdao supervises the training program and treats Tantai's loss as a severe blow to the Formation Hall. Shuo Feng presents him to Xu Bai as a rare formation genius. Tantai Can is only a possible clansman raised in Li Fan's private speculation and remains a distinct identity. (Chapters 298, 325, 458, 728–729)
Items
- Huan Yu training token: Tantai participates in the Formation Hall's closed training under institutional credentials, but the source does not establish a permanent personal artifact. (Chapters 298–299)
- Endstone Plate: Tantai examines the plate when Xu Bai presents it; brief handling does not transfer ownership from Xu Bai. (Chapter 729)
