Su Bai
Su Bai is the true name of Mr Bai, the gentle mortal whom Xuanhuang's Heavenly Dao favored as a reincarnated savior and who insisted that he remained himself.
Biography
Eternally Revered Heavenly Sovereign
Later revelation identifies the beloved Mr Bai as Su Bai and the former Great Xuanhuang Celestial Venerable. Though the Xuanhuang Heavenly Dao treats him as another being's reincarnation and grants him an immortal body, artifacts, and cultivation, Su Bai rejects that imposed identity: he calls himself an ordinary mortal whose only wish is to save the people he cares about. He returns the bestowed power, reverses the principle of the Immortal-Mortal Miasma, bears its suffering himself, and makes sincere recitation of his Dao Attainment title a path for mortals to cleanse it. His defiance reaches Longevity Immortality despite heavenly favor making rebellion harder. After his fall, a remnant obsession guides Sun Tianci; later Su Bai figures inside Li Fan's immortal formation contain Li Fan's will and must not be confused with the untouched historical original. (Chapters 960–961, 1144, 1238–1248, 1301, and 1365–1370)
Appearance and personality
Su Bai is remembered as extraordinarily, almost perfectly handsome, with gentle and affectionate eyes capable of moving observers even through an illusion. That beauty accompanies humility rather than vanity. He rejects a cosmic identity chosen for him, remains focused on particular people he loves, and accepts immense suffering to widen mortal access to cultivation. (Chapters 1144 and 1238)
Abilities and cultivation
Principle reversal
Su Bai reverses the Immortal-Mortal Miasma's governing principle and takes its suffering onto himself, allowing sincere mortals to dissipate the miasma by reciting his Dao Attainment title. The method is a world-scale sacrifice, not a casual cleansing spell without cost. (Chapters 1238–1248 and 1365)
Defiant Longevity Immortality
Using the ancient path, Su Bai defies heavenly law and attains Longevity Immortality despite being heavily favored by heaven and therefore facing stronger backlash. The corpus establishes the achievement but does not provide a complete step-by-step cultivation manual. (Chapter 960)
Great Celestial Venerable legacy
The Xuanhuang Heavenly Dao gives Su Bai a Great Celestial Venerable immortal body and several immortal artifacts. He explicitly returns these gifts when rejecting its plan, so later access by a remnant or successor is not evidence that the historical Su Bai permanently retained them. (Chapter 1238)
Relationships
- Xuanhuang Heavenly Dao favors Su Bai and claims he is another figure's reincarnation; Su Bai refuses that identity while acknowledging its kindness.
- Yin Shangren remembers Su Bai as an irreplaceable old friend and is deeply affected by his image.
- Sun Tianci is trained by a remnant obsession left after Su Bai's fall, not by the intact historical man.
Items
- Great Celestial Venerable immortal artifacts — Bestowed by Xuanhuang Heavenly Dao and explicitly returned by Su Bai; they do not remain his unqualified personal property. (Chapter 1238)
