Wen Wen

Wen Wen is a living young girl whose family history is tied to the cruel Bury Seed ritual. The drowned water ghost accompanying her is not Wen Wen herself but her elder sister, later identified as Zhao Shuang'er.

Biography

The child and the water bottle

Wen Wen visits New Century Park with her father and repeatedly speaks of an elder sister whom her aunt dismisses as imaginary. At her rehabilitative school, she keeps a strand of black hair inside a water bottle so that the drowned girl can remain close. A teacher pours the water away, isolates Wen Wen, and triggers the sister's violent manifestation through water and reflections. Chen Ge rescues the living child and contains the water ghost, then learns that the family sacrificed its first daughter through Bury Seed before Wen Wen's birth. Wen Wen calms only when reunited with the bottle holding her sister's hair and eventually returns home with her aunt. (Chapters 567–588)

Chen later follows Zhao Shuang'er's guidance to the Eastern Jiujiang Dam, recovers the doll carrying the elder sister, and completes the underwater mission. Wen Wen does not participate in that recovery and never becomes the drowned spirit; her role is the surviving child whose attachment reveals the older victim's existence and the family's hidden crime. Appearance and personality

Wen Wen is a young girl with large eyes who rarely speaks and struggles in unfamiliar social settings. She is frightened, attached to her father and sister, and easily distressed when adults remove the bottle through which she feels safe. Her alarming changes in voice and behavior occur when the elder sister acts through or around her. (Chapters 567–588)

Skills and supernatural abilities

Wen Wen has no confirmed independent supernatural rank. Water ripples, black hair moves, and her demeanor changes when Zhao Shuang'er's spirit manifests, but those effects belong to the drowned elder sister. Wen Wen's unusual sensitivity allows the bond to remain visible without making the living child a water ghost herself. (Chapters 577–588)
