Ol' Zhang

Ol' Zhang is a middle-aged Jiujiang taxi driver who becomes the victim of a possessed passenger and survives through Chen Ge's intervention.

Biography

Narrative role

Ol' Zhang already knows Chen Ge as a passenger whose late-night destinations have frightened local drivers. On a later shift, he picks up a passenger whose behavior turns increasingly unnatural and sends an emergency message to the drivers' chat group. Chen answers the appeal, tracks the taxi, and uses Xu Yin's help to confront the possessing presence before it can kill Ol' Zhang. (Chapters 250–254)

Once safe, Ol' Zhang gives the police an honest account of what happened and makes clear that Chen saved rather than endangered him. His testimony helps officers interpret a scene that would otherwise make Chen's methods look suspicious. The ordeal leaves him shaken and grateful, but alive and able to return to ordinary life. (Chapters 254–255)
