Ol' Wei

Ol' Wei is a veteran Jiujiang police officer whom Captain Yan assigns to accompany Chen Ge during the Coffin Village rescue.

Biography

Narrative role

Near retirement but still committed to field duty, Ol' Wei travels with Chen Ge and Master Bai toward Coffin Village after Captain Yan authorizes the rescue. He drives, carries his service weapon, evaluates human threats, and repeatedly tries to keep civilians alive as the expedition encounters paper villagers, hostile customs, and supernatural dangers beyond ordinary police experience. Ol' Wei continues the mission despite fear and injury, but contact with a hidden Ghost Stories Society member costs him part of his memory. He survives and later contributes what testimony he can to police handling of the affair, including the wider consequences around the village and its school principal. The memory loss limits his account without erasing the courage of his actions. (Chapters 328–342, 344, 358, 372–373, 390–392)

Ol' Wei is an older, experienced officer close to retirement. He is cautious, steady, and protective of civilians; even when supernatural events leave him visibly afraid, professional duty and concern for his companions keep him moving. (Chapters 307–342)
