Princess

Princess is a gigantic, divinely enhanced eight-headed hydra first encountered as the guardian of an imperial site in Koth. The Hydra-Control Dagger turns her from a lethal obstacle into a named coalition ally whose vigilance, mobility, and physical power match enemies beyond human scale. Her affectionate loop-era attachment to Zach Noveda does not transfer cleanly into reality: the surviving Princess is bonded to Zorian Kazinski, who cannot pass ownership to Zach.

Biography

The palace guardian and Zach's companion

Princess begins as a furious guardian pursuing Zorian through Koth’s jungle. Her enormous body and many necks appear ungainly, yet she plows through dense terrain at speed, throws obstacles with individual heads, and resists ordinary efforts to restrain her. Zach accidentally discovers the dagger’s procedure by cutting himself and then stabbing the hydra, creating a bond that she immediately accepts as legitimate. Her hostility toward Zorian becomes protectiveness toward Zach, who gives her an ironic royal name and begins treating her as a companion rather than a captured beast. (Chapter 87)

Across later loop iterations, Princess becomes transport, deterrent, research subject, and frontline ally. Her presence intimidates sulrothum tribes, her short-range teleportation enables tactical movement, and her eight linked minds teach Zorian a method for coordinating simulacrums without dissolving their separate viewpoints. She follows Zach’s commands but retains recognizable preferences, impatience, curiosity, and aggressive judgment. That temperament forces the coalition to negotiate with and accommodate her instead of treating the dagger as a device that turns her into an inert weapon. (Chapters 87–91)

Princess fights in the escape operation against forces capable of challenging archmages. She teleports into attacks, bites and tramples opponents, tracks threats with eight pairs of eyes, and recovers from punishment that would destroy ordinary creatures. Her loyalty gives Zach a relationship outside the human mentor network and gives the coalition a combatant able to occupy enemies at enormous scale. The copy involved in those iterations does not itself cross the Sovereign Gate, so the personal bond built through repeated months cannot simply be carried into the outside world. (Chapters 88–91)

War in the real city

The real-world dagger is activated for Zorian rather than Zach because Zach’s angelic contract makes his long-term condition uncertain. Zorian becomes Princess’s owner and controller, while Zach’s loop-era familiarity informs how both men understand her. During the invasion Zorian rides Princess against Sudomir’s undead, directs her toward Iasku Mansion, and fights beside her against one of Oganj’s dragon students. She combines speed, teleportation, thrown debris, bites, and sheer mass while still responding to tactical direction, allowing Zorian to move through a battlefield that would overwhelm a normal mount. (Chapters 96 and 101)

Princess survives the battle, but victory does not solve her place in the world. Zorian cannot transfer her ownership to Zach and is therefore responsible for a colossal magical predator he cannot hide indefinitely. For the moment she ranges through the Great Northern Forest, where a released flock of giant iron beaks begins following her and makes her even more conspicuous. Her endpoint preserves both sides of the bond: she remains a named creature with her own habits, while Zorian remains legally and magically accountable for what she does next. (Chapter 107)

Appearance and personality

Princess is a colossal quadrupedal hydra with eight long-necked heads sharing one body. Her divine enhancement gives her surprising speed and maneuverability for her size, and each head can watch, bite, carry, or throw independently while participating in a unified mind. She is imposing enough to serve as a visible statement of military power, yet her coordination keeps the many necks from becoming a tangle during rapid movement or close combat. (Chapters 87–88 and 101)

She is vigilant, territorial, curious, affectionate toward accepted bond partners, and eager to answer challenge with violence. Several heads may focus on different concerns at once, giving her reactions a collective quality without making her eight separate animals. Princess can posture, sulk, express disbelief, and follow gestures despite not understanding ordinary human speech. Her willingness to accept the dagger’s bond is magically conditioned, but her moment-to-moment preferences and the attachment that follows are recognizably her own. (Chapters 87–91)

Abilities

Hydra physiology and divine enhancement

Princess’s eight heads give her exceptional awareness and allow simultaneous attacks, feeding, observation, and communication through posture. Her body has immense strength, supernatural toughness, and regeneration; she barrels through forests and undead formations, wrestles a dragon, and remains combat-effective under attacks that would kill ordinary beasts. Divine enhancement also grants speed and agility that contradict her bulky silhouette. These traits make her hard to surprise or pin down, though sufficiently powerful dragon mages and ancient supernatural opponents can still threaten her. (Chapters 87, 91, and 101)

Teleportation and coordinated mind

Princess can perform short-range teleportation for tactical repositioning and movement into or out of the Imperial Orb. The ability cannot carry her across arbitrary worldwide distances, but it lets her escape a magical enclosure, appear beside an enemy, or shift her huge body without crossing intervening terrain. Her unified hydra mind coordinates eight perspectives around a shared task. Zorian studies that structure and adapts its principle to synchronize his simulacrums when they are pursuing one common objective. (Chapters 87, 89, and 101)

Control-dagger bond

The Hydra-Control Dagger forges a bond when a prospective owner cuts themselves and then wounds the hydra with the same blade. Princess recognizes the resulting authority as legitimate and can be directed through speech, gestures, and familiarity, but the bond does not erase all temperament or judgment. It is also owner-specific. In the outside world the bond belongs to Zorian, and he explicitly cannot transfer ownership to Zach despite Zach having formed the more intimate relationship with loop copies. (Chapters 87, 96, and 107)

Relationships

  • Zach Noveda: Zach discovers the dagger’s activation process, names Princess, and becomes the focus of her loyalty in loop iterations. Their bond is affectionate as well as coercive, but it belongs to copies inside those iterations and does not make Zach the real-world owner. (Chapters 87–91 and 107)
  • Zorian Kazinski: Zorian begins as Princess’s quarry and suspicious observer, then studies her mind and fights beside her. In the real month he takes the control bond, rides her against the invasion, and ends responsible for finding a sustainable place for her after discovering ownership cannot be transferred. (Chapters 87–89, 96, 101, and 107)

Items

  • Hydra-Control Dagger: The imperial device that establishes Princess’s owner-specific bond. Zach activates loop copies, while Zorian activates the real version and remains her owner after the battle. (Chapters 87, 96, and 107)
