Eye of Jeremiah
History
Sungjin obtains the hidden-piece earring Trite and identifies it as the Eye of Jeremiah. He repeatedly uses its mind-reading function in negotiations and investigations, although the Hidden Merchant resists its scrutiny. Serin later reveals that she owns an equivalent earring, while Kargos upgrades Sungjin's copy from Heroic to Legendary. (Chapters 72, 90, 95, 97, 103, 113, 119, 121, 130, 133, 136, and 143–144)
Abilities and properties
In its original form, Legilimency I lets the wearer hear a conversational target's thoughts for ten seconds after touching the earring, with a ten-minute cooldown; overlapping thoughts become difficult to distinguish. Kargos's upgrade raises the effect to Legilimency III for thirty seconds and adds True Vision III, which reveals invisible enemies for one minute on its own ten-minute cooldown. These powers provide information rather than certainty, as resistant minds and crowded surroundings can still limit what the wearer learns. (Chapters 72, 90, 95, 103, 113, 130, 133, 136, 143–144, 147–148, 169, and 177)
Ownership and custody
Sungjin keeps the earring and entrusts it to Kargos only for enhancement before receiving the Legendary version back. Serin's similar earring is a separate item in her possession, not a transfer of Sungjin's Eye or evidence that they share a single artifact. (Chapters 72, 143–144, and 151)
