Edwin
Appearance
Edwin's individual physical features are not described in detail. His recognizable silhouette is instead defined by the spear and shield of his Hoplite role, equipment that places him in the party's conventional defensive line. (Chapters 80 and 84–85)
Personality
Edwin is presented primarily through action, but his continued place in the Ivory Tower formation marks him as a cooperative teammate. He remains beside the other Hunters through the raid and joins Franz in confronting the reconstructed hidden boss rather than abandoning the collapsing fight. (Chapters 80–85)
The emotional response to his death gives that quiet reliability personal weight. Franz's cry of “Edwin” is the first disclosure of his real name, revealing that the seemingly role-defined Hoplite was a known and valued companion. (Chapter 85)
Biography
The Ivory Tower
Edwin enters the Ivory Tower as a spear-and-shield frontliner, participating in the ordinary ascent and in the party's attempt to understand the hidden encounter. He contributes through formation fighting rather than command, helping hold together a group facing a raid whose final threat is assembled from the dead. (Chapters 80–84)
When the Terrible Chimera appears, Edwin fights beside Franz against its fused animal and human components. The lion portion tears off one of his arms, and the snake portion then hurls him from the tower. Franz calls his name as he falls, converting the Hoplite from an anonymous combat role into a person lost in front of a surviving teammate. (Chapter 85)
Edwin's death does not remove him from the encounter's horror. His remains are incorporated into the Terrible Chimera, making a fallen defender part of the threat the survivors must overcome and intensifying the personal cost of the Ivory Tower's hidden boss. (Chapters 84–85)
Relationships
Franz is Edwin's closest established relationship. They fight together against the Terrible Chimera, and Franz's anguished use of Edwin's name demonstrates a bond deeper than the impersonal labels often used among temporary raid parties. (Chapter 85)
Edwin also serves alongside Sungjin during the Ivory Tower sequence, though their relationship remains tactical and limited by the brief raid setting. (Chapters 80–85)
Skills and abilities
As a Hoplite, Edwin combines spear reach with shield defense and understands formation combat. He can also use Wind Cutter, giving him a projected attack beyond the direct thrusts and guards suggested by his equipment. (Chapters 80, 84, and 85)
His style is designed to protect a group through position and conventional frontline pressure. The Chimera's overwhelming physical attacks ultimately break that defense before he can escape. (Chapter 85)
Equipment
Edwin carries a spear and shield suited to the Hoplite role. No individually named or uniquely ranked item is attributed to him in the supplied chapters. (Chapters 80 and 84–85)
