Akanna
Akanna is a reserved African spearman whose precision and ability to see through near darkness make him one of the Greysoul Cemetery party's strongest fighters. His unfamiliar chants are presented as prayers, and the corpus does not establish them as magic. He protects weaker teammates, helps defeat Deathmond, and is later killed and reanimated by Oryx. (Chapters 15–21)
Appearance
Akanna is a very dark-skinned African man whose eyes stand out in the cemetery's dim light. He carries a long spear and can move effectively beyond the party's lantern glow. (Chapters 15–16)
Personality
Akanna speaks very little and initially communicates through gestures or unfamiliar phrases. His actions are more legible than his speech: he saves Henrik from a zombie, protects weaker members, identifies the ghost as a blessed ancestor, and repeatedly returns to dangerous close combat despite his injuries. His reserve is therefore not indifference to the group. (Chapters 15–21)
Biography
Greysoul Cemetery
Akanna takes the middle position in Henrik's formation but quickly becomes one of its two principal attackers. He pierces zombies through the head, fights in darkness beyond the lanterns, and intervenes when Henrik's axe strike leaves him exposed. During the ghost encounter, Akanna prays and identifies the apparition as a blessed ancestor; the ghost passes without attacking, but the text does not confirm whether his recognition or prayer causes that outcome. (Chapters 15–17)
He later shatters Deathmond's staff arm and attacks the lich beside Sungjin and Hiroaki even after taking severe wounds. Oryx's accelerated undead horde eventually overwhelms him, and the Gravekeeper raises his corpse as a spear-wielding servant. Akanna's reanimated body attacks Sungjin with its former precision, but Sungjin deflects the strike, apologizes, and kills him a second time to end the forced attack. (Chapters 18–21)
Relationships
- Sungjin: Akanna fights effectively beside Sungjin against Deathmond. When Oryx turns Akanna's corpse against him, Sungjin apologizes before putting the body down and is visibly troubled afterward. (Chapters 18–21)
- Henrik: Akanna saves Henrik from a zombie that ignores the loss of its wrist, then becomes one of the fighters Henrik relies on to protect the formation. Henrik is shocked by Akanna's death and reanimation. (Chapters 16–21)
- Kultu: Akanna protects the rear-line archer during the early raid. Both men are killed by Oryx's horde and raised against the surviving Hunters, though neither is shown acting voluntarily while undead. (Chapters 16–21)
- Watanabe Hiroaki: Akanna and Hiroaki form the party's most effective close-range pair before Sungjin rejoins them. They later charge Deathmond alongside Sungjin and survive that boss fight together. (Chapters 16–18)
Skills and abilities
Spear mastery. Akanna attacks with precise thrusts that pierce undead heads, interrupts Deathmond by destroying the arm holding his staff, and retains dangerous accuracy even after reanimation. His Veteran Spearman title reflects demonstrated technique rather than a named active skill. (Chapters 16, 18, 20–21)
Darkness adaptation. Akanna sees and fights farther into the cemetery's darkness than his teammates can manage with lanterns. The source demonstrates the ability but does not state whether it comes from natural perception, a title, or equipment. (Chapter 16)
Religious recognition. Akanna chants unfamiliar prayers and calls the female ghost a blessed ancestor. Because no Operator notice or explicit spell effect follows, the corpus does not establish supernatural religious magic; the scene supports spiritual interpretation, not a confirmed mechanic. (Chapters 16–17)
Equipment
- Spear: Akanna's long spear is his primary weapon, used for precise attacks and front-line protection. Oryx later forces his reanimated body to wield the same weapon. (Chapters 15–21)
