Spirit Killer's Ring

The Spirit Killer's Ring is Kyembe's enchanted ring and the focus for his white hellfire. Its threat is established less by exposition than by an enemy's reaction: Kaz-Mowang withstands Claygon's fire-beams, yet sacrifices a subordinate rather than allow the ring's attack to touch him.

History

Escape from Kaz-Mowang

During the attempt to escape Kaz-Mowang's forces, Kyembe builds power in the ring while his companions struggle with mana-disrupting lightning. He raises the ring hand and drives still more power through it, burning his own arm as a white beam of hellfire launches toward the greater demon. Kaz-Mowang evades and throws his archivist into its path; the victim is reduced to ash, while the unleashed fire continues through ranks of pazuzites, destroying bodies and metal alike. Alex recognizes the tactical distinction between attacks Kaz-Mowang can absorb and the ring's hellfire, making the weapon central to the survivors' plan even though it does not land on its intended target. (Chapters 538–539)

Abilities and properties

  • The ring accumulates power and releases it as an intensely hot beam of white hellfire. (Chapter 538)
  • The hellfire can burn a demon to ash and continue into surrounding troops, destroying both living targets and metal bodies. (Chapter 538)
  • Forcing additional power through the ring visibly worsens burns along Kyembe's arm, establishing a direct bodily cost to its strongest demonstrated use. (Chapter 538)
  • The corpus does not establish whether the ring would have killed Kaz-Mowang; his determined evasion demonstrates perceived danger, not a completed result. (Chapters 538–539)
