Claygon's War-Spear
Claygon’s War-Spear is a massive enchanted spear taken from the greater demon Zonon-In. Its armour-piercing blade and life-draining enchantment become Claygon’s principal melee weapon from the Research Castle campaign through the final battle.
History
Zonon-In’s weapon
Zonon-In carries the spear while commanding Ezaliel’s demonic forces in Thameland. She summons it into her claw in a flash of red light: a nearly wielder-height weapon of burning brass, with a former bearer’s skull mounted near a barbed tip that sheds necromantic vapour. In battle she uses it as both a close weapon and a thrown projectile. After a throw clips Claygon’s shoulder and tears away much of the joint, the spear teleports back into her hand, demonstrating that disarming its owner is not as simple as avoiding the cast. (Chapters 373–385)
During Zonon-In’s defeat, Claygon seizes the embedded shaft and uses it as a lever against her. When the battle ends, the spear remains with him while the demon returns to the Hells. Baelin briefly teleports it away before questioning Zonon-In so she cannot detect it nearby, then returns it to Claygon’s custody. The demon continues to regard it as hers, but the victors treat it as Claygon’s prize and prepare to face her if she comes to reclaim it. (Chapters 386–395 and 429)
A claimed weapon and learned style
Alex repairs the damage the spear inflicted on Claygon, then begins teaching him the Spear-and-Oar Dance so that the captured weapon becomes more than an oversized cutting tool. Claygon drills thrusts, sweeps, throws, and positions over months of travel and combat. Against an invisible Ravener-spawn, the blade’s life-draining effect works alongside mana-soothing potions: the monster weakens as the spear withers its life, giving the expedition a way to harm an enemy whose body they cannot reliably see. (Chapters 391, 408–427, and 660)
Claygon carries the spear through the Cretalikon, dungeon strikes, the Games, and the assault on Uldar’s Rise. Its reach lets him clear formations while his upper hands fire the integrated gems, and he can throw it to disrupt a mobile opponent before closing again. The weapon itself is not stated to evolve with him. Indeed, after Claygon becomes iron, he tests its point against his own arm and finds that a blade which once carved his clay body cannot scratch the new metal, establishing a limit rather than an upgrade to the spear. (Chapters 478–539, 585–603, and 628–660)
The final campaign
In the northern fighting and the fae wild, Claygon uses the spear against runemarked warriors, behemoths, and dense Ravener-spawn formations. The broad blade can split weaker armour and bodies in a single sweep, while the haft supplies crushing force when an edge is unnecessary. During the direct confrontation with the Ravener, Claygon carries it while attacking Uldar’s body and guarding the coalition against the construct’s armies. (Chapters 692–719 and 859–884)
Claygon retains the weapon when Alex teleports him into the Ravener’s inner world. He uses it against spawn while pursuing the energy that offers another evolution, and it remains in one hand as his iron body changes into steel and dungeon-core substance. He later drives the blade into a wall as he tests and demonstrates his new strength. The supplied corpus does not show a later transfer, destruction, or return to Zonon-In. (Chapters 887–888)
Abilities and properties
- The spear is a nearly greater-demon-sized weapon of burning brass, with a barbed point, a skull from a former bearer, and visible necromantic vapour. The corpus does not identify its maker or explain the skull’s identity. (Chapter 379)
- Its edge penetrates most demonstrated armour, hide, stone, and flesh, and its weight and long haft let Claygon sweep groups or use it as a crushing lever. The strongest bodies can resist it; Claygon’s iron arm suffers no mark from a deliberate test. (Chapters 384–386, 648, and 704)
- Wounds from the blade drain or wither life. This helps weaken living demons and Ravener-spawn, but no comparable restorative benefit to Claygon is shown, and the effect is not established against lifeless material. (Chapters 383–387, 427, and 648)
- Zonon-In can summon the spear from elsewhere and recall it after a throw through a flash of teleportation. Claygon throws the weapon in later battles, but the source does not separately confirm that he inherits her recall bond. (Chapters 379 and 384–385)
- Its enchantment resists some external interference: it struggles against an iron demon’s magnetic pull rather than behaving like ordinary metal. Stronger opposing power can still drag or pin it. (Chapters 526–528)
- Claygon’s effectiveness with the spear develops through practice and bodily evolution, not through a confirmed transformation of the weapon itself. (Chapters 408, 648, and 660)
