Chief Olaf
Chief Olaf is the firbolg protector of Clan Fir hAllaren, a wary leader whose fear of danger from Bjorgrund's rune-mark drives a bitter rupture with his own kin.
Biography
Clan protection and the break with Birger
Olaf receives Alex Roth and his companions with threats and suspicion, but relaxes enough to accept their proof that the offered elk is safe and directs them to his great-uncle Birger. His hostility toward Birger and Bjorgrund grows from repeated rune-marked attacks on the clan, even though he still sends food and previously killed a golem knight threatening their people. When a clansman sabotages Birger's ward, Olaf reduces the deliberate betrayal to an “accident,” prioritising internal authority and the clan's fear over justice for his estranged relatives. Birger ends their dependency and bars the clan from his land; Olaf answers with threats against Bjorgrund and leaves without resolving the feud. (Chapters 700–708)
Appearance and personality
Olaf is a towering firbolg with a beard woven with dagger blades. He wears remnants of a defeated golem knight's armour and carries an axe. Cautious with outsiders and protective of his authority, he can make bargains and supply estranged kin, but his prejudice against Bjorgrund and refusal to acknowledge deliberate wrongdoing turn those protective instincts into cruelty. (Chapters 700–708)
Magic, abilities, and skills
Olaf is an experienced warrior and clan leader. Birger credits him with killing the golem knight that took Birger's leg and calls him powerful enough to kill Bjorgrund in a direct fight. Olaf also tracks threats through hunters and organises the clan's defences against rune-marked attackers. No personal spell or supernatural technique is shown, so his combat reputation cannot be broken into unexplained mechanics. (Chapters 700–708)
