Zimo Lu — Mark of the Fool

Zimo Lu, commonly called Master Lu, is Theresa Lu's father and the protective patriarch who helps Alex Roth escape the duty imposed by the Mark of the Fool.

Biography

Sending the children to Generasi

When the new Hero cycle begins, Zimo prepares his family to flee Thameland for relatives in the Rhinean Empire. Learning that Alex has been accepted by Generasi University gives him hope for the young man's future; discovering the Fool's Mark makes him grip the counter in fury at a fate that has already taken Alex's parents. Rather than surrender Alex to the Heroes, Zimo entrusts him with Theresa and Brutus, joking that they are the Lu family's deadliest weapons while recognising the danger of travelling alone. His farewell combines parental worry, practical instructions, and acceptance that the young people must choose their own path. (Chapters 1–4)

Reunion in Generasi

Zimo and his wife later visit Generasi, where a demon-summoner attack gives them a frightening introduction to the city and Theresa's omissions about her dangerous life. He is stern when her secrecy becomes clear, insisting that parents have a right to worry, but his stay also lets him see how much Alex and Theresa have grown. After accepting their financial help for the displaced family, he departs with pride rather than demanding they abandon the expedition, telling them that their presence makes others safer and promising that the Lus will return. Appearance and personality

Zimo is a middle-aged man with a deep, booming voice and the authority of a family patriarch. He smokes a prized pipe, enjoys teasing Alex and Theresa, and can turn stern when their safety or honesty is involved. Beneath the humour is a generous, emotionally open parent who embraces Alex and Selina as family while trying not to disrespect their deceased parents. (Chapters 2–4 and 192–258)

Magic, abilities, and skills

Zimo casts no spells and demonstrates no supernatural power. His abilities are practical: he runs the Lu family inn, organises an emergency evacuation, preserves the family's ancestry book and inherited weapons, and uses a Generasi visit to purchase goods for resale after displacement destroyed the family's livelihood. Theresa Lu: Daughter whose independence he supports even while demanding honesty about its dangers.
