Biography

The cabal's maker in Cretalikon

Magun-Obu welcomes Baelin to the cabal's meeting with the familiarity of an ancient friend, discussing divine architectural commissions, an estranged son, and the danger of outliving mortal family. He accepts Baelin's request for help against Ezaliel, then brings the instincts of a builder into Cretalikon's destruction: while annihilating demons with darkness, cosmic force, and star essence, he raises an obsidian fortress so the cabal will have shelter if the battle lasts for days. His concern for ruined architecture survives even the victory, but the experience also prompts him to consider visiting his son. (Chapters 498–542)

Baelin later helps him acquire rare materials for a distant pantheon's palace and unsuccessfully assists with his family difficulties. By the time Alex considers an association with Baelin's cabal, Baelin describes Magun-Obu as one of its more reasonable members. The source does not show a reconciliation with his son, but it leaves him active as both a maker and cabal-mate rather than withdrawn into the torpor he sometimes contemplates. Appearance and personality

Magun-Obu is a tall, powerfully built, dark-skinned man with a shaved head, four arms, and voluminous black robes. He rarely smiles with his mouth; emotion is more often visible in his bright eyes. His deep voice, restrained manner, impatience with wasted effort, and grief over destroyed workmanship make him appear severe, but his friendships are warm and his troubled concern for his son is genuine. Magic, abilities, and skills

Magun-Obu surrounds himself with darkness that drains the life and energy from white hellfire, fires withering black bolts from his staff, binds enemies with void chains, and uses cosmic force to hold them still. He can move into the space between seconds, coat an arm in star essence, raise a rune-covered stone fortress almost instantly, and create multiple erupting volcanoes. These feats demonstrate extraordinary breadth, but the corpus does not assign him a formal spell tier or fully explain their circuits. (Chapters 524, 530, and 541)

As “the Maker,” he designs palaces and other wonders of architecture and sorcery for pantheons. His commissions can require rare extraplanar materials and collaboration with Baelin, showing that even his expertise does not make every project effortless. (Chapters 498 and 812)
