Kaz-Mowang
Kaz-Mowang is a former mortal cultist of Ezaliel who becomes an immortal greater demon and rules a palace in Cretalikon.
Biography
A Step out of the Circle to Generals and Legacy (Final Chapter of Mark of the Fool + Afterward)
Kaz-Mowang's history makes him both target and obstacle for Alex. He served Ezaliel so successfully that he became a demon, then rose as one of the abyssal knight's powerful and fanatical lieutenants. In an ancient battle with Hannar-Cim, he fought her to a draw and took a prize that later becomes a clue in Alex's search for her. Because Baelin judges him beyond Alex's direct strength, the cabal recruits mercenaries and infiltrates his gala as the Troupe of the Gargoyle rather than challenging him openly. (Chapters 506–517)
Kaz-Mowang's pride shapes every opening the infiltrators use. He fills his palace with statues, murals, trophies, and entertainments celebrating himself, and he welcomes a performance that rewrites history to show his victory over Hannar-Cim. Pleased by public flattery, he declares that entertainers who glorify him have earned their lives, allowing the troupe to disperse through the gala. His cruelty is equally visible in caged mortal captives and in his boast that victims in his maze come from a recent conquest of the material world. (Chapters 517–521)
When Baelin's external attack throws the palace into panic, Kaz-Mowang leaves guards at his trophy room and flies toward the disturbance. Alex, Kyembe, and Ripp exploit that choice to seize what they came for and escape. The raid humiliates his security without defeating him; the corpus later invokes possible allies of Kaz-Mowang only as a fear or nightmare, and does not show his death, recovery, or response. His latest confirmed state therefore remains that of a living greater demon whose possession was stolen. (Chapters 521–543 and 907)
Appearance and personality
Kaz-Mowang resembles a demonic minotaur of immense size. He has four horns, four eyes, feathered wings, six-fingered hands, tentacles in place of fur, and a customarily depicted trident. Smoke rises from his nose, and his voice sounds as though a dozen beings speak together. (Chapters 506–518)
He is cruel, vain, theatrical, and intensely possessive of status. His palace turns his self-image into architecture, while his love of guests and lavish performances exists chiefly to display wealth and conquest. Flattery reliably delights him, but the captive mortals and lethal maze establish that hospitality does not temper his violence. (Chapters 506–522)
Magic, abilities, and skills
Greater-demon body and flight
Kaz-Mowang possesses the strength, immortality, wings, and imposing supernatural presence of a greater demon. He can fly through his palace and is assessed by Baelin as too powerful for Alex's infiltration team to fight directly. The corpus does not name his full spell repertoire or show a sustained present-day duel, so his precise offensive limits remain unexplained. (Chapters 506–507 and 517–522)
Domain and palace control
His palace stands within a personal maze that ordinarily entertains guests but can, at his will, reach up and crush anyone attempting to fly over it. Demonic guards, illusion-piercing creatures, and Cretalikon's mania-inducing environment compound that defence. These are domain resources and servants rather than proof that every effect originates from Kaz-Mowang's body. (Chapters 507 and 517–522)
Warfare and conquest
Kaz-Mowang's recorded draw against Hannar-Cim, his place among Ezaliel's lieutenants, and his material-world conquests establish long experience as a war leader. The surviving accounts do not explain how he became demonic beyond devoted service to Ezaliel, nor how his immortality functions, so those mechanisms remain unspecified. (Chapters 506–522)
