Asmaldestre

Asmaldestre the Unmaker is a feared war-spirit whom Alex Roth summons as the champion of his final campaign.

Biography

The Ultimate Technique of Mana Regeneration to Generals and Legacy (Final Chapter of Mark of the Fool + Afterward)

Then-Arus gives Alex Asmaldestre's name while warning that she embodies blood, iron, flame, and destruction on a scale beyond ordinary planar allies. Alex nevertheless chooses her because he needs an opponent terrifying enough to break the hidden church. He constructs a blood-and-iron circle, casts the ninth-tier Conjure Ultimate Ally, and offers four divine weapons, future battles, and mutual loyalty rather than obedience. Asmaldestre examines his technique, rejects both arrogant masters and grovelling petitioners, and accepts only after his spar with Bjorgrund demonstrates skill and his refusal to tolerate betrayal demonstrates resolve. (Chapters 698 and 750–753)

The alliance changes the balance of the church battle immediately. Asmaldestre uses one of the gifted ranged weapons to break the defenders' protection, nearly bisect Izas, and shoot the fleeing Stalker and First Apostle. She subsequently joins the campaign against the Ravener, where her interest is not simple obedience: she pauses to assess the construct and “drink” its violence before committing. Once satisfied, she intercepts magic with red energy that turns spells into ethereal blood, withstands death beams, and holds the Ravener's attention so the mortal fighters can regain control of the battlefield. (Chapters 764–878)

After the Ravener falls, Asmaldestre explains that wounds which would kill a mortal are marks of battle to a war-spirit and will heal. She judges Alex's promised violence satisfactory, declares their contract complete, and returns to her own plane while welcoming another alliance in a future war. Alex's later thought of summoning her against McHarris confirms that he still regards her as callable, but no new summons occurs before the corpus ends. (Chapters 895–907)

Appearance and personality

Asmaldestre has a centaur-like outline: a six-armed humanoid torso rises from a wingless, draconic lower body made of steel. Serrated metal scales weep boiling blood, her claws can rend stone, blades are woven through her hair, and her long spiked tail ends in a weapon marked by glowing symbols of war. (Chapter 752)

She is proud, severe, and entirely oriented toward worthy violence. Weakness, slavery, cheap payment, and trivial tasks disgust her, yet she values correct ritual, honest bargaining, courage, and mutual loyalty. Her amusement at Alex's threat shows that she respects boundaries when they are backed by demonstrated will rather than empty bravado. (Chapters 752–753 and 878–896)

Magic, abilities, and skills

War-spirit resilience

Asmaldestre is an immortal spirit whose existence is fundamentally tied to violence. Deep wounds expose her interior without imposing mortal-level impairment, and she states that it would take far greater damage to cause true harm. This is resilience, not invulnerability: she acknowledges that war-spirits can die honourably in battle, and her injuries still need time to heal. (Chapters 878 and 895–896)

Unmaking magic

Red energy can sheath Asmaldestre's weapons so that hostile spells struck by them rupture into fountains of ethereal blood. She uses this effect against the Ravener's force, fire, poison, conjured blades, and death beams while pressing close with blades and firearms. The corpus demonstrates interception and destruction of active magic, but does not establish that she can erase every effect, target, or permanent enchantment. (Chapter 878)

Multi-weapon combat

Six arms, a bladed tail, claws, and centuries of warfare let Asmaldestre combine melee and ranged attacks without leaving obvious openings. She quickly masters the divine weapons Alex gives her, including a projectile weapon resembling Toraka Shale's prototype, whose shot penetrates magical protection and multiple bodies. Her results still depend on aim and line of fire; targets can flee or receive outside rescue, as the First Apostle and Stalker do. (Chapters 752–766)

Summoning and contract limits

Calling Asmaldestre requires the ninth-tier Conjure Ultimate Ally, an accurately sealed circle, iron, blood, and payment she considers worthy. Errors can release her against the summoner, while an insulting bargain gives her no reason to cooperate. Her oath with Alex lasts only while neither party breaks the alliance, and the specific final-war contract ends once the promised weapons and battles have been exchanged. (Chapters 752–753 and 895–896)

Relationships

  • Alex Roth: Summoner and allied general who earns her service through precise ritual, divine weapons, demonstrated skill, and a reciprocal pact.
  • Bjorgrund: Rune-marked warrior whose spar with Alex helps prove the proposed alliance will lead to worthy battles.
  • Izas: Hidden-church leader whom Asmaldestre catastrophically wounds with her new ranged weapon.
  • Hart: Champion who joins her direct assault on the empowered Ravener.

Items

  • Four divine weapons: Former weapons of Uldar given to Asmaldestre as payment, including a ranged weapon resembling Toraka Shale's prototype; they remain hers when the contract ends.
  • Innate arsenal: Blades, spears, unknown weapons, bladed hair, and a weaponised tail carried as part of her war-spirit form.
